Driving through Bowie to this spot seemed sketchy but once we got to this idyllic spot so close to I-10, we were hooked. Great cell service. If you want to stay in a spot for a day or two in your self contained travel trailer, then this is your place! Unfortunately, we had business to take care of in El Paso so we had to motor on.

This site was beautiful, at the bottom of some rock formations. Very quiet (except for coyotes at night) and lots of spots to choose to from. It is farther off the I-10 than it looks on the map. You have paved road for about half the drive and then a dirt road for about 15 mins going 15-20mph in our Sprinter. Would recommend!

We stayed here 4 nights the week before Christmas, 2020. Beautiful place and lots of campers here. Our first night we drove almost to the end of the road, about a mile or 2 from the park entrance, before we found a spot. We saw many sites along the way that were spread out for good privacy. We stayed here 4 nights the week before Christmas, 2020. Beautiful place and lots of campers here. Our first night we drove almost to the end of the road, about a mile or 2 from the park entrance, before we found a spot. We saw many sites along the way that were spread out for good privacy.
The next few nights we moved closer to the entrance and the vault toilet.
I can see how in a torrential downpour you would want to avoid the area as one reviewer mentioned - lots of sand and loose earth. But it was perfectly dry our entire visit.
There are cows and steers that roam the area and so lots of dropping from them. Watch your step!
We were busy catching up on work with the 3 bars of Verizon LTE so didn't get to do any hiking, but we are so looking forward to staying here again on our way back in a couple months and will definitely check out the hiking then.
Access is super easy - sandy gravel road with occasional washboard, but not too bad.
Interstate 10 is about 3 miles away with railroad tracks just beyond but from inside our van we never heard either one at all.

We absolutely loved it here! The video shared by Campendium was indispensable as we arrived at night - it was really helpful to understand where campsites were in the dark. As others have noted, the road in is dirt so we had to go about 15mph in our Class C. Worth it!
We went slow on the bumpy path to the sites in and ended up in a large site surrounded by the most unreal landscape. The cell reception was stellar too - allowing us to work remotely for two days (video calls and all).
Just be cautious of wildlife - we were advised not to walk our dog at night and definitely don’t leave him outside in the dark.
But this place is 100% on our shortlist to return!

Previous reviews are confusing. I’m really not sure why you wouldn’t feel safe here. Anyway, it’s BLM. Of course nothing more than dirt roads and homemade fire pits. We really enjoyed it. Beautiful views with some really amazing hikes nearby. I probably wouldn’t take anything bigger than 35 feet down here to be safe. Unhitch and check out what sites are available before you drive down the past the fork in the road, there’s not too many places to turn around.
Cows walk around here, it’s a frequently visited place but nothing too crazy. Not loud at all. Would come back again if we stop in Bowie

I arrived at 130pm on a Sunday. The road there through Bowie is sketchy and very secluded with rundown and abandoned houses, buildings, full of tires and cars that haven't been driven for years. I arrived at 130pm on a Sunday. The road there through Bowie is sketchy and very secluded with rundown and abandoned houses, buildings, full of tires and cars that haven't been driven for years. Once you get past that, you have to drive through some kind of tree farms to get to the dirt road leading to Indian Bread Rocks. Away from any real civilization, I quickly realized that it was a great place for people to party with load music, ride dune buggies and 4-wheelers. Four hours later and just before sunset, I packed up and left. I'm licensed to carry and I still didn't feel safe there. The area was also literarily full of bull crap, literally. I have a Weboost, so my signal was great.

Read the reviews and wanted to stay here last week. But, due to a torrential downpour, I didn't dare and continued on to Thousand Trails in Benson, AZ. Today, since it was only 60 miles away I decided to go recon it.
The last cattle guard gate is a tight left turn and the gate is small.
The turn around at the main area is tiny and half of it got pretty messed by the storm.
The area where you could park 3 RV's is now so sandy that your RV would sink.
The trail beyond that is also very loose sand. I kicked on the 4 wheel drive and was still concerned about getting stuck.
I recommend you avoid this location. Shame, because it is a beauty of a spot.
