The non electric are amazing and many are very large. The dark sky is amazing and so quiet. I would camp here again and again and again.

This may well be my favorite State campground in NM. Great rock formations to explore and photograph. The campsites are all nestled into the rocks. There isn’t a ton of space between campsites, but it’s better than average for State campgrounds. There are hot showers.

Really cool park, campsites are nestled (sometimes shoehorned) into the rock formations. Pay attention to where other reviewers camped - site accessibility/suitabilty varies greatly. Whole park is rock formations on a hill, so many sites have at least some slope to get in. Some sites level, some not very. We had to back uphill up the access road about 100 yards to ours (#21), and we parked with the jack fully extended with 9 yellow blocks plus a 10x2 board underneath to get close to level. Once we got the stabilizer jacks down (resting on large rocks), with chocks on the downhill side of all 4 wheels, we felt secure. Luckily side to side leveling only required 1 layer of yellow blocks. The 3 sites (22-24) down the access road from us are better left for tents, Class B or small Class C rigs. They're on a little cul-de-sac with healthy slope for access (sites themselves pretty level).
Great walk-in sites for tent campers - you can snuggle in by the rocks!
Verizon Cell tower is SW of the intersection of Hwy 61 and US180, so line of sight campsites can coax out 3 bars sometimes. (ie hook-up area and hill beyond)

Our site was a spacious back-in site that was surrounded by large rock formations, a very cozy and private spot to camp. This site had a picnic table covered by a large shade tree, fire ring, and nearby trash container. The vault toilet was a good distance away, the free warm shower facilities are at the visitors center. We hiked through the unique rock formations, an amazing experience and an easy hike. The night skies are wonderful, everything about this campground was very enjoyable and peaceful. We had 2 bars with Verizon.

I had picked site 39 as it was a pull through among the rocks. It's a good thing we work well as a team to get into tight and very unlevel places. Talk about between a rock and a hard place. Steep into the site, then flat for a few feet, then steep. Some rigs might have trouble with that. Then a tight turn with rocks on both sides as you are still in a turn. A small rock wall the driver can't watch while between 2 huge rocks. Had to have the truck heading back down hill to exit to get front to back level. Then 1 extra large and one large roll on levelers. Put rocks in front of truck tires since it's headed downhill. No way will we unhook. View out our window is of the huge rock and more rocks. Beautiful site but not one anyone with a trailer or large RV should pick. Nice level spot for the picnic table but in full sun. Nice shady spot in the rocks to sit. Outhouse at the bottom of the hill at our site. One star on access based on our difficulty with this site. Easy to get here otherwise. $10 plus $4 booking fee. Did not use the facilities. Campsite was very clean.

We ended up abandoning our 1 night reservation here and finding another place at the last minute when we failed to get even close to level in our site (#34) after more than 90 minutes and many attempts at different positions within the site. The sites are beautiful with the rocks as a backdrop, but driving around the campground, we noticed that several of them were so unlevel that it would be nearly impossible to camp in many of them with anything other than a tent, van, or tiny RV. Several other campers were using not only leveling blocks, but improvised with other items when those were not enough (one Airstream was using their traction boards stacked with leveling blocks). Another family in a large motorhome appeared to abandon their site too around the same time because of the same issue. Most of the sites would not have worked with our 27 ft travel trailer unless we were several inches off level or had a lot more level blocks than we typically carry. We picked site 34 after watching a YouTube video review in which someone said it was "one of the better and more level sites," but we didn't find that to be the case. That site is HUGE (both wide and deep), and would have been more than adequate if it was not super sloped. The photos online made the site look fairly flat, but photography angles can be deceiving. It would be a good site for a van. There are some hiking trails, and a nearby hot springs that we didn't visit, but not much else to do around there as it is pretty remote. Given the size of our RV, we would not return here.

We are full-timers in a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow. We were here for a few days in early April in site 14 -Gemini (dry camping). The campground does get rather busy, but most of the sites are well spaced, so it doesn’t feel too crowded. Many of the sites were surprisingly level, although some present significant challenges to getting level. There are several trails in and around the park. Most are rather easy, but Table Mountain trail can be rather strenuous in a few places, but the view of the campground and surrounding are is awesome. Terri made friends with several of the resident Ravens while we were there.
AT&T coverage was close to nonexistent, with only 1 Bar of LTE service and speeds of only 0.6 MB/s without a booster. We had an unobstructed view of the sky and so we were able to receive all 3 SW Dish satellites and Starlink had up to 19 MB/s. We didn’t try to load any OTA channels.
There is a winery with tastings, La Esperanza, just 20 miles away, whose wines are really pretty good. There is also a private hot springs, Faywood, that is just a couple of miles away, on the way to the park from US 180.

What a cute and scenic little campground! We needed an overnight and, although it was about 30 miles off our route (with all sites showing as booked and unavailable through the online reservation system), we took a chance and arrived just before the park rangers left at 4:00pm. We were hoping to snag a FCFS (first come, first serve) electric site (there are 3 non-reservable electric sites) that could also accommodate our Class A DP towing a car trailer (over 55' LOA). We knew it was a big gamble and, as anticipated, all 3 electric FCFS sites were already occupied. We took a quick drive around the electric loop and noticed Site E-10 was unoccupied and did not have a tag at the post (this site showed as reserved and unavailable online). *Site E-8 Neptune was also unoccupied and had no tag (this site actually stayed unoccupied during our overnight, but showed as reserved / unavailable online). We ran in to inquire about E-10 and we are so glad we did as they told us they believed the people that had reserved it had moved into a different site (E-6, which is FCFS) and that we could "go ahead and take it". We paid the iron ranger right after pulling in and getting level. *The next morning, we heard a staff member tell another would-be camper that was calling in to inquire about availability (again, all reservable sites were showing as reserved / unavailable online) that they will always find a place for you and they try not turn people away (his words). We noticed that they did accommodate for at least two other campers without reservations that arrived at the same time we did. This, of course, is going to be easier if you have a smaller rig, but even the toilet houses had large gravel parking areas where a big rig could fit, if necessary. There were about 5 established sites where our large set-up would have fit without unhooking. Many of the sites are very sloped and/or off-camber (E-10 is sloped uphill as you drive in), so 4 stars for Site Quality due to that. Check-in is at 4pm, but I would arrive prior to that so you can speak to the rangers before they leave for the day (at 4pm) and they can help accommodate you. The park is quiet, clean, and well-kept. Verizon was good.
