We stayed here in early December 2017. Our site 2 is a reservation site and was spacious and I highly recommend it. It has a great almost uninterrupted of the basin and a good view of Dog Canyon. The fire ring was on broken concrete so we didn’t use it. Visitor Center is very nice and the staff there very informative. The riparian... more

Loved this park! Half-empty most of the week, although the water/electric sites fill up fast (half are walk-up, half are reservable). The views to the west across the desert are amazing, and the Sacramento mountains behind the camp are picturesque and also the start of some great hikes. A very good state park lots of sites and options for views, we chose the Sonoran desert view and were very happy we did as the sunset was one of the best desert sunsets I've seen. We stayed here for 3 nights with the intention of using it as a base for visiting White Sands National Monument. Given the park's proximity to Alamogordo and White Sands, it seems like most folks stay here with the same thing in mind.
