We were in a no hookup site, solar production was unimpeded. Generators are allowed.
This place has a top 5 campground view out of all of the 100+ we've stayed at. Excellent view of the mountains and desert landscape.
The access road in is paved and in good shape. The campground loop is easy to maneuver through. Note that all the sites seem to have varying layouts and shapes and some have shelters and some don't. Preview your site ahead of time on Google Streetview. Noise was minimal outside of occasional distant train horns.
Our site wasn't level and was off 5 inches side to side but had sufficient room for us.
Propane available at Cortez Gas in town. The Tractor Supply was unreliable.

Good spot with little to no competition worth considering. The price is very fair at $14.00. Hot showers and bathroom were standard for State campgrounds. We were in spot 3, which was rather loud with traffic coming and going until 1:00 am. We will return, but I’ll look for a spot at the bottom of the hill next time if it’s available.

We stayed here for a week and loved everything about it (besides the heat). The views are incredible of the mountains, sunset, and for stargazing. The campground had a power outage for a few hours one night, and we had a rattle snake on our campsite but those are the only 2 “bad” things about this place

The other reviews are all very good but the one thing they don’t tell you are about are the sites. In Loop A there are 6 sites FCFS with W/E and in Loop B there are 7 FCFS that are BD.

It was $18 vs $14 and 30 amp vs 50 amp but that was ok with us. Campground reminds us of Rockhound SP as it is on the side of the hills\mountains and has great night views. Very clean campground and shower\bathrooms. Good T-Mobile 5g (2 bars but steady 50 mbs down). If you have Starlink, there is good view of northern sky from most all sites. Campground is good basecamp for White Sands and Trestle Depot\Cloudcroft.

The visitors center was a great source of information about the area and the trails were great as well. We had 2 bars with Verizon. Overall this was a great camping experience and we would return again!

While Oliver Lee is billed as the closest campground to White Sands NP, it’s still a 22 mile drive each way. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The park ranger/host went far above and beyond when we arrived hoping to snag a first come/first served site only to find the campground was completely full. He led us to the overflow area which had no hook-ups, but probably had some of the best views in the park! We loved it!
We enjoyed the visitor center and the Riparian Trail. The small botanical garden was a delight with hummingbirds dipping into the cactus flowers. There are also several trails within the campground area with informative signs providing history of the area/early inhabitants. I cannot speak to any of the park amenities (bathrooms, etc.) since we didn’t use them. The primitive sites in overflow had a stone ring/fire pit, but no other amenities. There was a dump station and water available at the main campground. We would happily stay here again.
We had 3 bars of Verizon 4G.

We were there for three nights from April 25 to April 28, 2023. We did not have a reservation (none available) so I arrived at 1 p.m. They have limited first come first serve campsites and I got the last one that was available at that time. Checkout is at 2 p.m. so maybe others opened up. It was extremely windy while we were there but we still enjoyed it. We have a pop-up tent trailer and we also set up a four man tent on the same site. Campsite was well maintained and the camp hosts drove by probably six times a day and were very nice and informative. Vault toilets were kept clean as was a separate REAL bathroom with showers and electricity. Landscape is very appealing with mountain backdrop. Countryside is mostly cactus and shrubs. It can get hot there! We visited the historic home on the premises but tours were only available on Fridays and you should reserve a spot at the visitors center. We also visited White Sands National Monument about 30 minutes away. The camp host at Oliver Lee had some sleds we could borrow to take to White Sands so that was nice too. All in all, a good visit but summers might be tough. Wish the campsites had been spread apart a little bit more but that is typical at a state park. No noise issues.
