“Great experience!”

When you arrive, your destination will not be advertised until the actual turn; so, have your GPS ready or be on the lookout. The campground itself is off the main road a few miles. It backs up right to the Sacramento Mountains. We were already done with the whole desert experience by this point, but the mountains did make a beautif... more

“One of the best parks yet !”

This park is great. The sites are packed gravel but are big and flat. The restrooms and showers are clean and neat. The location offers a spectacular view of the valley and the mountains. The only thing missing is wifi.

“Nice park with many advanced mountain hiking features and 30 mins from White Sands Nat'l Monument”

Reviewed Mar 29, 2018

Overall Rating

This is a very rugged location about 20 minutes outside of Alamogordo, NM and about 30 minutes away from White Sands national monument. The Dog Canyon trail is worth it but be prepared if you want to hike the whole thing to take the warnings on the trail very seriously. The hike is not super difficult but in the first 1.5 miles I was t... more

“Wonderful State Park with Amazing Views”

Reviewed Mar 27, 2018

We stayed here while visiting the White Sands National Monument. I wasn’t going to book here original because the white sands were about 40 minutes from this location. However, I am glad I made the choice to stay here and do the short drive over to the white sands. The sites are spacious and the views are amazing. We didn’t have sewer ... more

We arrived on a Monday (Presidents Day) and there were several open spots. This park has a certain number of sites that are first-come-first-serve (our spot was first-come-first-serve) and the rest are by reservation only. When you pay for your stay, understand that there are no refunds so if you're not sure about how long you want to ... more

We did the 6 mile round trip to the cabin which includes 1500 feet of elevation gain, and it was great. Its not the best trail for dogs, so only take your pup if its level of... more
