We found this BLM property when looking for somewhere to stay close to White Sands NM and it was perfect! No hook ups, quiet, clean, level and spacious spots with wonderful views in the Organ mountain national recreational area. We are traveling around the country full time and this is one of our favorite stops. Folks warned about the road in with a rig over 20' ... We are a 25' travel trailer and made it just fine. The road is curvy with elevation gain but very well maintained. The trickiest part might be finding a spot that can fit something over 25'. There are several sites but they seem to fill quickly. Added bonus are the two trails that leave right from the campground!

A real gem in the BLM inventory, 7 miles off the road with a bit of elevation gives you a birds eye view of the Sonora desert near the White Sands National Monument. Surrounded by the majestic peaks every direction offers a different view, the hike is not to be missed if you are fit, good trails, well marked, approx 5 miles with apparently 86 floors of elevation we took 3.25 hrs at a leisurely photographic pace, well worth the sore legs the next day. The gates to the in road close at night so check the seasonal timing, clean washrooms and quite level sites.

The organ mountains are underrated and this campground sits right in the heart of them. Its one of the nicest and cleanest BLM campgrounds I've stayed in and it is surrounded incredible views on every side. The mountains are your backyard and views of the valley for miles and miles is your front yard. Its $7 to camp, but only $3 if you have a national park pass. The sign as you enter the recreation are warns not to take trailers over 23' because of the steep and winding road however the road is not bad at all and I'm sure bigger rigs could make it up just fine. The real issue for bigger rigs is that there are not many sites that can accommodate them. There just a couple that are pull through sites the rest will probably not fit a very big rig. Since mine is just 19', that was just fine by me. Its a popular picnic and hiking destination that gets a lot of day use too. Las Cruces is close by for Wal-Mart and Taco Bell runs. White Sands is just up the road too. No services other than trash and vault toilets, but the sign at the bottom of the road where the campground host is says they have drinking water available. Verizon signal is great.

In order to get to this campground you need to drive up a steep, very winding road for about 5 miles. The sign when entering the campground indicates that trailers longer than 23' shouldn't make the trek. There are no facilities other than reasonably clean vault toilets.
The views of the mountain range and the White Sands valley, along with peace and quiet are reasons to enjoy this campground
