Be sure to visit the "Belly of the Dragon" cave which is about 1/4 mile from the turnoff on the left side of the dirt road going south. Very cool. Poor cell coverage id the only real downside to this location.

There is a limited number of spots on this road. We arrived on a Sunday and managed to snag the last site alongside the river. Aside from some trash, it was a nice spot. What we didn't realize was that hunting season had just started and most of the people on the road where hunters. Soon after arrival, a guy came by on his ATV to warn us that we might hear some gun shots. Which we did and we also had a LOT of ATVs zooming past us all day long. As a result, we didn't hike in the nearby forest, but it's only a short drive into Zion or south to Coral Sands State Park which are both great for hiking.

Woke to a movie set getting set up down the road!
The road in is really good - nicely graded. However, that does leave a bit of a hump of dirt and rocks all along the road. The site was pretty level once I got over the hump.

Right turn off 89 on dirt road just south of Junction City. Site required some clean-up, nice and level spot, very quiet. Sites along Virgin River were taken, but found pleasant site near trees. Glad to have good sleeping bag; warm day but 25 last night. Comfortable stop between Zion and North Rim.

Easy to find. Well maintained dirt road. Sites were mix of sand and gravel. Creek was flowing with just enough water to bath in.
GPS coordinates take you to end of campground. Entrance is the dirt road just after the guardrail for the creek.

We didn't hear any ATVs, but this is a hot spot for that activity - so you very well may want to avoid if you're looking for absolute quiet during the daytime hours.
At night, the star views here are tremendous!!! We built a fire and ring - but make sure you bring kindling and wood, as scavenging here will be scarce.
This spot was dope. Very high on my list of places to return if visiting Zion.

The road to get to the sites was gravel, but easy to drive on. There are 2 large sites on the left side of the road and 1 large (could get up to 4 30' rigs) and 2 medium spots on the right, right along the river. The river has a couple deep spots for a dip, otherwise it is slow flowing. The sites are mostly even and with shade. There are a couple other spots where tents could make it work. There is one area with horse corrals. There was a large group closer to the highway that road by our spot every morning. It was fun watching them go by. The only negative to this spot was on Saturday when the ATVs came through. They park wherever and not all of them slow down when they past your rig so it can get dusty. But it was for only about 5 hours and not a huge bother.
You do not want to drive past the large site on the left or over the cow guard rails. There is no room for large rigs past there. I do suggest hiking from one of the RV sites along the road. It is a 2.1 mile hike/bike ride to where the Ranch is. The ranch is on private land, but the road is public. You can keep going back for miles along the river. It is great for ATVs as there are some harder trails for them. My husband road his mountain bike another 4 miles after the ranch. The sand and river crossings keep up your guard and make a fun ride! Be careful when you take dogs through, there are breaks in the fences to get the dogs around the cow guards.
I had originally thought I would give this location 4 stars because of the 0 cell service or data and then I was like, "what are you thinking?" We are not out here to be on our phone. Enjoy the fresh air and the river. If you do need cell/data to be working stay at the Watchman RV park in Zion Park. I have been told that ATT has good service. For Verizon it is scarce anywhere in the area. This location is close to Mt. Carmel Junction. There are gas stations and a Best Western with Thunderbird Cafe. They were incredibly nice there. They would let us use their wifi without buying anything. We would sit in the golf area and they would say hi and let us be (for hours) or sit in the cafe for as long as wanted even after just ordering a beer and root beer float. The Cafe is home to Ho-Made Pies and that awesome Root Beer Float!!! They also have a golf course it's $20 for 9 holes and a pull cart.
It was about 45 minutes to Zion, 20 minutes to Kanab, 15 minutes to Best Friend's Animal Society and 70 minutes to Bryce. We would also suggest the scenic 14 that goes north of Zion. You come out at Kolob Canyon.
The ease of driving and getting into a spot, the location to multiple attractions, the quiet and being next to a river make this a must if you are in the area.

There are 5 large campsites here, 4 of which are on the banks of the east fork of the Virgin River. 4 of the sites are large enough to accomodate at least 2 rigs. The dirt road they're on is the beginning of the Barracks Offroad Trail, so we experienced increased ATV/UTV traffic on the weekends but the noise isn't enough to be bothersome. There are also fenced corrals for horses. The first 2 sites are closest to the corrals & tend to be the staging area for loading/unloading ATVs, so they may have increased noise. Do NOT take a larger rig past the cattle guard: there are no good places to turn around before you reach the first of 19 water crossings!
These sites are relatively close to Zion National Park and to Kanab, UT. Kanab is a cute town with several restaurants, 2 grocery stores, and laundry. If you're into Westerns check out the Little Hollywood Museum. Lots of great off-roading and hiking in the area. We'd give this site 5 stars if it was closer to any major attraction or to Kanab.
AT&T coverage was sufficiently fast to stream data. Although the canyon walls are steep, we had no trouble getting enough sun to completely charge our batteries via solar panels (in mid-April).
