“Quiet Boondocking Spot”

Reviewed Apr 25, 2018

Overall Rating

Spent time here two nights. Daytime temps were in the 80s, with a nice afternoon breeze. Found a nice flat spot for the RV, and had no need for levelers. The long time “residents” were friendly, and one of them rode around on his bike collecting random trash. Easy drive into Death Valley NP from here for exploring. No noise from t... more

We stumbled upon this place by chance, and we lucked out. It looks as though it was supposed to be an RV park then they ran out of money... all the concrete pads were level but were over run with bushes on the sides. It was a beautiful spot just off the highway but with no highway noise. There were a few campers and maybe a few “reside... more

“Gateway to Death Valley”

Reviewed Mar 20, 2018

Overall Rating

This is a nice place to stay if you are visiting Death Valley because it’s cooler and very open. Unfortunately as time has gone on I’ve seen some vandalism growing. That always makes me sad and makes me not want to review places I love. There is no cell service even with a booster. There’s a tiny trickle at the entrance but only enough... more

“Great open space for RV’s of all sizes!”

Reviewed Jan 25, 2018

We were surprised to find such a great spot close to Death Valley. There’s numerous concrete slabs to park your RV or you can park on the dirt. Very quiet when we were there. Only 3 other RV’s and one tent. It was about 15-20 mins to Furnace Creek Visitor Center inside Death Valley NP. We received 8 amps of solar in the peak time of th... more

“Easy access and good location to explore the southern end of Death Valley”

Reviewed Jan 09, 2017

Overall Rating

This spot was nice. It is very easy access right off the highway, and there are plenty of spots to camp. It is a RV park that had all the concrete pads and piping put in but never opened. This spot was great to explore the southern part of Death Valley, where most the attractions are. It was very quite when we were there, a few other c... more

“Great surprise!”

Reviewed Jan 02, 2017

We were dismayed to find that many of our favorite backcountry camping spots had been washed away by floods. Not stoked about campgrounds that have the ambience of a WalMart parking lot, we came to the Pads. It was quiet, never more than two others here. Coyotes serenaded us at night. No services, no shade but plenty of privacy. We wil... more

“Think of a clean Slab City”

Reviewed Apr 29, 2015

Overall Rating

After three days in busy Texas Spring campground in Furnace Creek, it was great to be someplace quiet and private. There were only two others there, one of whom is sort of the host/caretaker. I found a spot way at the end. I used my pad like a patio. It was great. Too bad I needed to head down the road the next day. I'll be back.

“Free Camping with no hassles.”

Reviewed Feb 06, 2015

We stayed here on the way to Death Valley and it worked out well. We heard that it was intended to be an RV park, but never opened. No hassles at all — had a good, quiet night with a great fire. Only drawback is broken glass around a number of sites. Took a pic from the hill behind that shows all the concrete pads poured in the... more

“Boondocking near Death Valley”

Reviewed Nov 16, 2014

Overall Rating

Disclaimer: we haven't actually spent the night here, but we drove through to scout it out for a future visit and were impressed! This is near mile marker 130 on Hwy 190 about 5.5 miles outside the entrance to Death Valley. It appears to be an abandoned "company town" or an old mobile home site? It's unclear and mysterious, but it'... more
