Question about The Pads

Poppi G asked on 1/23/2021

I am planning to stay at The Pads the first weekend of February. I understand that during the current stay at home order in CA that campgrounds and backcountry camping is closed. Has anyone stayed at The Pads during the month of January 2021? If so were you hassled at all or told to move?

Thanks for any info or advice.

We stayed there in January also for 2 nights until the Death Valley Campground was opened. It was a great spot, no issues whatsoever. We only moved because the Furnace Creek Campground was lower elevation (and therefore warmer) and more centrally located. We would definitely stay here again.

I just left there today. I spent 3 nights and no issues whatsoever. The thing is. It’s outside of the Death Valley, so there’s no stay at home orders enforced there, and there are several people camping on BLMs around and inside the park. Just go for and keep in mind that gas /water/sewer/propane nearest is inside the park 25miles more or less. Watch for debris at the pads to avoid flat.

I was in Death Valley in January and visited The Pads. There were several RVs there camping. The NP campgrounds were closed, but the dump station and potable water were available across from the Furnace Creek visitor center.
