We had to pull through site that has electric only but has 50 amp and also 30. The view is absolutely incredible spaces are level they have potable water at the dump station and also garbage. The only downfall is he can hear the interstate but it's not intrusive so that's why only a four star.

We stayed at Picacho Peak State Park in the middle of a rainy few days so we didn't get to hike in the park which was one of the main reasons we camped there. In spite of this, we enjoyed the striking views of the peak well-kept sites and convenient location between Phoenix and Tucson and recommend it.
Value:
Good. Like other AZ state parks, we paid $30/night for E/W hook-ups and access to a dump station. Our spot was large, fairly level, and had a terrific view. The approach to the campsites is on a paved, wide road and access to the highway makes it a place that's easy to get to. The downside of the closeness to the highway is, of course, the noise. It wasn't loud enough to bother us at night with our fan running, but something to note when you're picking your spot.
Dog-Friendliness:
Ok. While there was no dog park (again, like other AZ state parks), the camp site loops are long and wide enough that we were able to get in a decent walk in with our pup.
Runner's and Biker's Rave:
Good. We didn't get out because of the rain, but the camp site loops as well as hiking trails look like they provide good options for running and biking.
WHJ Insider Tip:
The Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is only 25 miles away and a fascinating dog-friendly site to visit.
Overall, we'd recommend staying at Picacho Peak State Park. Especially if you have a chance to hike, the vistas and location make it a great place to camp!

While this was a very clean campground with clean bathrooms and great showers we would only stay here again if we needed a night to shower and dump the RV. We could hear and see, not only non-stop traffic from I-10, but the train as well. This was all day and all night. It is hard to justify $30 a night with only electric provided and the “potable water” contains nitrates “which could be hazardous to people with health problems and infants” as the signage reads. We did not fill our tank and chose not to take the chance drinking it.
The sunsets were beautiful and some of the sites were tucked in between the big peak (Picacho) and a small hill that worked as a nice buffer from the interstate/train (Bottom of A and B loops).
One great thing was that internet is available for a very small fee ($8 for 3 days) and we were able to binge on some Netflix while waiting out a nasty wind storm. I wish this were offered at all the campgrounds we stay!
This campground has had a history struggling to stay open and been on closure lists, according to some. I would hate to see it close as the staff are so nice and keeping things very clean. But the price doesn’t justify the product, in my opinion. We would stay here again if traveling though and our go-to’s in the Tucson and Phoenix area were full.

The park is right off I-10 and a short distance from Casa Grande and not too far from Tucson. The park consists of 3 loops which allows for some spacious and unique campsites, each will a good view. Sites have a firepit, picnic table, and either a covered pavilion, or a small clearing/open space for chairs, games, etc. Highway noise is present, but negligible.
Sites are decently level and have electric hookups. A dump station on the way into the camping loops has potable water. Warning about bees: when we were there, there seemed to be a colony of bees living in the dump station rinse water pedestals. They didn't give me any problem, but I made sure to conduct myself carefully while dumping.
The best feature of the park are the hiking trails that range from easy to difficult. We took our young kids on the Children's Cave Trail, Calloway Trail, and Nature Trail. There are also a couple of trails that climb up to the top of the peak. I tried out the Hunter Trail, which climbs to the saddle, then around the other side, and ends up on top of the peak, about 3300 ft elevation. Beautiful views from the top.
Saguaro cactus are everywhere and give the mountainside an interesting look. The visitors center is small but has some nice merchandise. I bought a field book of desert birds. Staff is very friendly and tried hard to find a way for me to stay longer, but they were booked and I could only stay 4 days.
Two large restroom buildings are in the camping loops, with electricity, flush toilets, and showers. Very clean.
We would definitely stay here again, probably for longer next time. All Arizona sunsets seem to be amazing, but the ones we saw at Picacho seemed above and beyond. We have a post about this park on our blog: http://www.hitchedsweethome.com/single-post/2017/02/08/Picacho-Peak-State-Park

We also loved the convenience of the park’s location. It’s right off interstate 10 and offers a secluded feel, but is a quick 30 to 40-minute drive to both Tucson and Casa Grande. We enjoyed dinner one night in downtown Tucson (Mexican food is a must in this area!) and driving through Saguaro National Park on the way. But otherwise, we just enjoyed the serenity of the park, grilling and photographing the saguaros at sunset, and waking up early for a sunrise hike!
