Miles Away Everyday would stay here again

“A PERFECT EXPERIENCE!!”

Reviewed Aug 02, 2017

Overall Rating

This was an outstanding place to stay. If we didn't already have plans to meet with family elsewhere, we would have stayed longer. We fully intend to return and tell everyone we meet about this magical place. We stayed in late October 2016 when the colors were changing.

This was our first ever boondocking experience and James' first real RV and camping experience - EVER (grew up camping and RVing for vacations). It could NOT have been a more perfect place for us to begin this new journey of ours. After all of the boondocking we have done, this is still on our top three!

The people there are nice and neighborly, one regular vacationer helped us when we first arrived. Some spots are for reservations only, but there are plenty of other open spots to choose from. There aren't any hookups. There are spots for both RV'ers and tent campers. Tent campers are typically lined up along the rolling river down below. There's a lake on the other side to fish in. The individual camping spots for RV's are spaced out enough to give everyone their own privacy, complete with fire pit that has the grill piece attached.

We walked the grounds with our dog after we arrived and set up, everyone was nice and waved, at the least. After the sunset, we sat outside to stargaze and it was beyond picturesque. We were in a perfect circle of tree tops with a plethora of stars, shooting stars (because there was a meteor shower happening at the time) and the milky way was very visible as well - add that in with the sounds of the rolling creek on one side and a professional singing and banjo playing duo performing perfect music off in the distance by their campfire made it absolute perfection.

Now, we had just our Verizon cell phones with us and we were off-grid. With that being said though, we didn't mind at all because of where we were and the experience. Very much worth being without signal.

We woke up early to hike to Linville Falls to watch the sunrise. The hiking trails all around there are wonderful, with beautiful views.

Could not recommend this place to stay, explore and experience the campground and surrounding trails more. Turn off your electronic devices for a change and do it. It was so refreshing coming from a couple who have their own business and are very much engrossed in electronic devices for work - worth every second of not using anything. DO IT.

“Small spots, limited privacy”

Reviewed Jun 04, 2016

Overall Rating

This campground is located on a grassy knoll, with a nearby river and a short drive away from Linville Falls. Sites are situated in a way where almost every camper can see the other, and few sites were large enough to accommodate our 25' trailer. Fair amount of generator noise during the day.

I'd only come here again if I were religious about wanting to see the falls and booked a large site in advance. Also, we tried grabbing boosted Verizon signal with our directional antenna and it wouldn't work anywhere in the campground. All in all one of the less comfortable campgrounds we visited during our drive up the Blue Ridge.
