A great NF campground. Greeted immediatley by Dan the host. Mentioned that they had a cancellation in a spot that had electricity and showed us the way to very nice, level and private spot. A great NF campground. Greeted immediatley by Dan the host. Mentioned that they had a cancellation in a spot that had electricity and showed us the way to very nice, level and private spot. Noticed most of the spots were pretty well private. Very impressed how clean, Raked and completely trash free, every spot was.
The road was extremely washboard once you leave the pavement so take it slow! That will not keep us from returning.

The only reason it is not a 5 is there is no dump station.
There is fresh water fill at the host / check in site.
All loop E sites have 50,30,20 amp electric.
The gravel road in is washboard but no issue if you take your time.
Cell service is 1 bar at best on T-Mobile, ATT had nothing.

Making reservations through reservation.gov was impossible. According to the the website there were no campsites available and first-come sites weren’t available until September 18. Making reservations through reservation.gov was impossible. According to the the website there were no campsites available and first-come sites weren’t available until September 18. I took a chance and drove the 11 miles out of Durango to the campground and discovered all the first-come sites were available and many of the reserveable sites were empty. This national forest campground has four loops, I had an incredible campsite in Loop B, Site 4, relatively level, totally private, no other campers in sight. The campsites are clean, the bathrooms immaculate and Dan the host was nice and very informative. B4 had zero cell service, but I was able to walk to up the hill to electric Loop E and obtained two bars of Verizon. The only drawback to this campground is there are no dump facilities or the ability to fill freshwater tanks. Highly recommend providing you have a full freshwater tank and do not need to dump. I paid $13 with my senior discount.

Nice simple camping outside of the bustle of Durango. Yes the road is washboard but doable. Quiet large sites. Host is great. Still a few sites open on a Friday night. My favorite kind of camping.

We stayed in loop E which had electricity - a nice amenity for a USFS campground. Sites are well spaced , beautifully treed, very level and super clean. They seemed very new. The last mile of road is gravel and rough but not impassible.

We had reservations for site D3 but this was a non hook up site and it was a very hot week so we were able to switch to an FF site with electric E5. Both sites were really large. D3 had a tree on the other side of the road that made backing in a challenge. Colorado Trailhead at the entrance to the campground. Easy drive into Durango. We could hear the train in Durango blow its whistle. Also the RV dealership going toward Pagosa has a free dump and water. AT&T good enough with our WeBoost.

This is a wonderful place. Dead quiet, sites spaced very far apart. Really a lovely place. The workers were very helpful and nice. I went with a 42' Class A towing a car. This is a wonderful place. Dead quiet, sites spaced very far apart. Really a lovely place. The workers were very helpful and nice. I went with a 42' Class A towing a car. The 4 mile dirt road was a bit washboarded, but totally doable so long as I went slow. The dust on my car after I pulled in was the worst I've ever seen. It washes off though. The price shown included an electric hookup (50 amp). I took one star off for the following reasons: No water/sewer hookup. I imagine it would be quite a feat to manage a sewer system at this location so I can't fault them too badly for that, but there are water spigots in various locations throughout the campground, so a water line to sites would seem doable. Also... critters. I caught 5 mice in my rig during my stay, and a chipmunk decided to take up residence in a quarter-panel of my car. Again, not much the park could do about them - just something to be aware. Cell service is fine as long as you stay on the eastern side of the campground. Most of the premises does not have cell signal at all. I used a booster and had no problems accessing the Internet.

We stayed here 1 night on a recent western trip. The camp hosts were very helpful and friendly. The sites were well spaced and clean amidst a relaxing forested setting. The vault toilets were among the cleanest and pleasant smelling that we have seen on our trips and well lit. Others have noted the rustic dirt road coming in, but our Class B van had no problem, just needed to navigate to the smoother parts of the road. The camp is relatively close to Durango too.

As others have said, the approximately 1.5 mile of dirt road is heavily washboarded and might be uncomfortable for most who aren't used to offroad driving, but once you get to your campsite you will leave memories of the brief discomfort behind. Quite simply one of our favorite campgrounds so far! As others have said, the approximately 1.5 mile of dirt road is heavily washboarded and might be uncomfortable for most who aren't used to offroad driving, but once you get to your campsite you will leave memories of the brief discomfort behind.
Our site was on Loop C and it seemed to us that the one-way road went the wrong way for easy backing into the campsites, but that was easily managed by pulling straight in to an adjacent site and then backing up down the road and into our site. The site was anything by level, but that was mostly remedied with the use of every leveling block we carry with us.
All of that having been said, the sites here are large and very well-spaced apart so there is abundant privacy and the ability to kick back and enjoy nature. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, and all seem to be surrounded by tall pines, which is simply fantastic for ambiance but definitely keep this in mind if you need to solar charge your batteries. This campground is just so quiet and serene, it is everything that is great about camping.
For those who need to work or communicate via cellular while camping, please be advised that there is absolutely zero Verizon or T-Mobile cell service here, even with a signal booster. If you need to get work done, check out the Durango Public Library.
Please remember that this is bear country! We saw quite a large black bear rummaging in a trashcan in one of the houses nearby, so they are most certainly in the area.
