Was raining, so didn’t scout out the river path, plus was having issues with altitude. Our neighbor encroached on our site—rug, table & chairs, and truck! Spaces are clearly defined by yellow posts. Didn’t know where to go at first. Drive past office and around arena to see gated area on the right.

We didn’t make a reservation and just stopped by to see if they had any availability, and they did for one night (July 3rd 2019). Nothing special at all as far as accommodations, but being able to stay in Durango for $25 was exactly what we were looking for. The camp area is a large gravel lot with water and electric at the sites. They have a rodeo on Wednesday nights in the summer (which was the day of the week that we happened to be there), so it can be a little dusty/noisy for a few hours, but you get to see a rodeo for free, which was a nice bonus for us while traveling with kids. There is also a nice bike path that follows the Animas river that you can pick up right out of the camping area. Also, there is a large playground directly behind the camp area (at rec center).

Drove in later than we wanted and needed a stop for the night. Clean, basic municipal parking lot, but it was good enough. Thanks, La Plata County.

We found this little gem on Campendium and it did not disappoint! We are full-time RVers with a large toy hauler, so sometimes finding an adequate spot (and affordable) can be a challenge. We visited Durango which is limited on RV spots with hookups and the ones that are there are not cheap and usually booked. We were visiting friends and having our solar installed at Tarpley RV in Durango so we were there for over a week.
You have to call ahead and make reservations with the La Plata County Fair office to reserve a spot and they fill up often, so call early! The ladies in the office are very sweet and accommodating. We arrived in the afternoon, stopped by the office, checked in, paid our fees (half the amount of the cheapest RV Park in the area) and proceeded to the RV parking area. We have three dogs and they love it! You are literally in the city park, so there are lots of places to walk your dogs and yourself :) Also there is access to the river walk that runs for over 7 miles along the Animas River which we all enjoyed. You are within walking distance of restaurants and stores and the city trolly has a pickup station across from the Fairgrounds that will take you downtown to historic old town Durango for a dollar. It was quiet, clean, easy to access, plenty of room for our large rig, with water and electric hookups. As some have commented there is some noise from the county maintenance facility next door, but it was minimal. It didn't bother us at all.
We will definitely stay here again in the future! Durango is an awesome place to visit with many things to do.

This is a great location for anything you want to do in Durango. It is right next to the River Trail bicycle trail which gives you access to downtown, restaurants, shopping, Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railraod, groceries, library (free wifi) and more. We stayed here for 4 days in our 24' bumper pull trailer and once we parked, we never drove the truck again. This is right next door to the rec center and for $5 per day you can use their facilities (gym, hot tub, pool).
There are 6 gravel spots with power and water. Very quiet and safe, except for one evening. It is close to the High School so the local kids were racing their trucks and revving their engines. They stopped after about an hour.
Angela at the La Plata County Fairground office that you need to make a reservation with is really nice and helpful. She told us about her favorite places around town and things to do from a locals perspective.

Ditto to others. It’s a gravel lot. Piles of horse poop around since they rodeo here. Workers are noisy but we slept fine. Elect and water. Real good part is the bike trail is right behind us. We rode bikes all over town. Durango is very bike friendly. Animas Trail is about 7 miles long along the river with several really nice parks.

Safe & secure location. The fairgrounds work crews are noisy, because the camp sites are right next to crew shed.
Fairly quiet at night though.

We were first in for the day. Back-in sites but hookups on the passenger side. Water comes thru a frost free pump. It’ll do for filling the holding tank.
Fairly level gravel lot.
Right next to Recreation area so if you’re outside you can hear kids playing. But also access to the river side paved trail.
Efficiency camping.
