Sites are first-come, first served. We got there on a Thursday in mid-July about 2pm and it was about 1/4 full. By Friday, it was full. Electric sites are first to go. We got a non-electric site. All sites are very private, the electric sites are level, the non-electric sites vary. The showers are clean, trash never overflows lik... more
Sites are first-come, first served. We got there on a Thursday in mid-July about 2pm and it was about 1/4 full. By Friday, it was full. Electric sites are first to go. We got a non-electric site. All sites are very private, the electric sites are level, the non-electric sites vary. The showers are clean, trash never overflows like some places. Extremely well maintained. They are very strict about bear country camping rules. The hiking and paddling are spectacular. It’s a short walk to sandy, quiet beaches and beautiful lake vistas. Truly one of the most beautiful campgrounds and parks we’ve ever visited.

Overall Rating
We stayed just one day and night and had a wonderful experience. The campground is very peaceful quiet. The people are so kind and friendly. We enjoyed our hike to the beach and found a lookout point overseeing the Lake Superior. We definitely want to go back and would go for 2 nights so we can do all the hikes.

Sites are quite private with lots of greenery and you can hear the waves from your site. The park trails are gorgeous. The shorter ones close to the campground are very well maintained- there were a number of new bridges, lookouts and staircases as well as some interpretive panels. The Coastal Trail to the suspension bridge was rougher but well worth the hike. Stunning..

We stayed here in late September - the campground remains open by self-registration and fees are about $10 less per night than peak season. They closed the north loop but there were still plenty of available sites, half electrical and half non-electrical. A campground host is on site to help. We stayed here in late September - the campground remains open by self-registration and fees are about $10 less per night than peak season. They closed the north loop but there were still plenty of available sites, half electrical and half non-electrical. A campground host is on site to help. They shut off the water the day after we arrived, (Sept 24) though pit toilets remained available and the dump station is still open. Sites vary in size - some are too small for large RVs but others are big enough. Most were quite private with good tree buffer between sites.
There is no cell signal in the park at all, however there is a visitor's centre with free wifi via satellite. The visitors centre was closed but the wifi was still worked great from deck outside.
They had 4 canoes and 2 SUPs available for rent however we were too late in the season. Neither the camp host nor the administration building could assist us in renting any equipment.
This campground is surrounded by beautiful hiking trails. The Southern Headland Trail is not to be missed, with easy access up the rocky penninsula to stunning vistas over Hattie Cove and out across Lake Superior. We also hiked Manito Miikana which was more challenging through the forest with muddy pathways over rocks and tree roots. It rewarded with beautiful views however - if conditions are dry, it is a good hike. There are also beach trails to lovely sandy beaches lined with log remnants from logging days. It is a good place to swim on a hot day if you can brave the cold water.
The famous suspension bridge looks awesome, but is accessible only via an 18km round trip hike from the visitor's centre over more rocky, muddy and tree-root covered trails: we decided against attempting it.
The town of Marathon is located just 25 minutes away and has lots to entertain on a rainy day including a library with free wifi, a museum, a grocery store with a gas station with good prices, and a big shiny Canadian Tire!

This was our goal to kayak in Lake Superior, ok in the cove. We hiked everyday and had some amazing views. We even loved the fog with the beauty of the forest. Wireless is only at the visitor center and they say it is better at the beginning of the month so maybe plan that into your trip as we were phoneless so wireless was important ... more

Get gas in the states as it is about $4 a gallon
But so worth the money to get there

I have nothing but good things to say about this campground. Starting with check-in, where we got to drive around and choose our own site, and ending with a gorgeous sunset stroll along the bluff, we had a wonderful experience here.
The campground has two loops - one with electric and one without. Aside from the obvious, there's not a lot of difference between the loops. All the sites are good size with lots of trees for privacy.
We didn't spend too much time at our site because there is so much to explore in the park. You can hike on the bluffs or to the beach, swim in the water (if you can brave the cold), or paddle around the calm bays and small islands.
