Easy access for bigger rigs with plenty of space. Cell service was great! This site could have easily been one of my favorite boondocking spots. Sadly, when we showed up the site was filled with trash and I’m talking like dirty diapers and tampons type of trash. We did clean up a lot of it, but locals came on the weekend and trashed it up again. Its right on the water and you can swim or do other water activities there. It did get really busy, but it was just Father’s Day weekend. Overall, it’s a beautiful site. Hopefully people can do better on keeping this area clean so everyone can enjoy it! Keep in mind there isn’t much in the area. Klamath falls is about a 40 minute drive from here or more.

It can be nice with a lake and mountain view. Sadly the trash is abundant. Popular with locals on weekends, some atv riders.

I do see about 2 to 3 vehicles a day in the area late spring during the weekdays, less than a dozen on the weekends. Some target practicing and ATV's primary in the quarry areas. If tent camping, just drive around, there are dozens of secluded dispersed camp spots. If hauling an rv over 20' I'd recommend after getting to the sign board on FS-020 go right into the quarry then walk around to find a spot. Left from the sign you'll find nice spots especially on the east side of the ponds. There is one turn right after the sign that is challenging for my 28' travel trailer due to embankment. There is a bit of garbage and a couple of pretty gross spots in the SW area of the quarry.
There are also 2 large spots right off the highway on NF 3651.
There are a few spots up 3651 for tenting it.
If you travel up 3651 about 3 miles you'll find 4 mile creek which is pretty and a walk down the hill from there will put you on Lost Creek. I fished them but didn't get a nibble.
All in all, very enjoyable during coronavirus stay at home (rv).

Previous reviews mention teenage locals — at this time quarry was drying up. So, we weren’t bothered by locals— even Labor Day Weekend.
Not many spots for a big RV. Dirt spots unlevel due to mole infestation. We camped on the rocks by the quarry for full sun. Plenty of shade.

I camped in the open area, so that I could get solar power all day. The surface was gravel and rock dust. It was ungraded and very unlevel, with slopes, dips and deep ruts, so that although the area was huge, much of it was unusable for placing an RV. I would not venture onto it without 4WD, just in case. The area was clean by the lake, but there were piles of broken glass towards the back.
There are numerous private sites on the left side of the lake, but some of them were absolutely littered with trash. There are some nice van/tent sites at the far end of the lake, accessible from either side.
Although it seems to be miles from civilization, this place was teenage central. There were teens blasting out noise on the other side of the lake on a couple of weekday evenings, but the weekend was an absolute nightmare. There were kids on ATVs doing circles around the camping area kicking up dust, teens driving old cars endlessly round the lake, revving up their engines and spinning their wheels, and music blasting out from the other side of the lake until late at night.
Verizon 4G was excellent, with 3 bars, -96 dB, 22 Mbps down and 14 up.
The Lake of the Woods dump station at Aspen Point Campground is close by, and should have been open April 1st, but it was still closed and locked in May. I used the free dump station at Moore Park in Klamath Falls.

SubaruVagabond pretty much nailed the review. We did not experience the yellow jackets, but we arrived late in October. It's a no-frills place and obviously a place that others frequent (lots of signs of recent campers). While it is a nice place and all, there is better free camping in the area at Odessa and Malone campgrounds.

This spot was almost entirely very nice. The only reason I left after three nights was due to swarms of yellowjackets attracted to my car. I imagine that those would be less of a concern with a larger vehicle, but it kept me from being comfortable staying there. This was late August, at a time when I hear they are quite active in this area; if yellowjackets are a concern, this may be a better spot for a time when they are less active.
Some tips about getting there: Google Maps wanted to tell me to turn on Mountain Lakes Drive when coming from the East, but that road was gated and did not give access to the area. National Forest Development Road 3651 (the first right after Mountain Lakes Dr coming from the east) is the actual desired route to take--there are signs for Cold Springs Trail Head pointing down that dirt road. That dirt road splits early, with the left going to the Cold Springs Trail Head and the right going towards the marked boondocking. When it splits again, there is a board with dispersed camping information, including current restrictions, etc. There is camping on both sides, but I found the largest spots while exploring the roads to the left.
Some spots might require 4WD, but others should be fine without. Spots also range in size from very small to quite large. Some are entirely dirt, and some are more gravel. It's pretty easy to get a level spot in all of those.
I found some spots quite littered with trash, but other spots were very clean. I liked one spot that had a little bit of litter that I cleaned up, but I spotted a couple of spots that were significantly more littered. I didn't get total solitude while I was here, as people drove through on occasion, but it was very quiet. Verizon was excellent throughout the area.
I liked this spot a lot, and I'm a bit bummed that I left over the yellowjackets, which is something I usually avoid doing. It's a beautiful spot in the forest, easy to position for solar panels but easy to get good shade from the trees. The actual quarry area isn't particularly notable for anything, but I enjoyed it. There is some cool lava flows and other old volcanic activity to check out in the area, which I really like. It's also an easy drive to Crater Lake.

Be aware, if you are here when the pits are full of water, walking in them without shoes can be dangerous. When it dries up, kids and others throw and break bottles in the pits, then when full, you can't see the glass.
