Our first free, wild or dry camping / boondocking experience was a little stressful but well worth it. We found this spot on this site and our iPhone GPS struggled a bit finding it which always ups the tension and makes for an interesting story! Headquarters road has washboarding but is easily manageable. The further we went the worse the road became so we did a u-turn in the field and went back to the very first spot on the right when you drive in on 707A. It’s isolated, beautiful and FREE!

This is another site in the Pole Mountain area. Located northeast of the Aluminarium location there is space for a number of large rigs. Headquarters Road is relatively smooth with small washboarding.
Verizon was sporadic even with a WeBoost 4G-X and Trucker Omni antenna it bounced between 3g and 4gLTE. Speeds were at best 2mbps down and .28 mbps upload. Voice was fine.
Drive in from Happy Canyon road side (WY 210). Headquarters Road does go south and eventually you can loop back to the visitor center at the Summit Information Center on Blair Wallis Road. But once you pass the Aluminarium turn off on FS 707B.

I stayed at the base of Pole Mountain, about 1/3 of a mile away from the trailhead and later realized that the 5.5 mile loop exited right next to my site. Taking a mountain bike up the trailhead and going to the peak was not nearly as fun as the switchbacks going downhill on the otherside. Overall about 1 hr on the bike and the rush was awesome, highly recommend. Campsite was somewhat trashed when I arrived, cleaned up lots of glass and trash before I set up, but after the rebuild, a really nice spot with lots of weather and good views.

This is how the boonies should be. It's beautiful, it's isolated, there's lots of nature AND we can work from here!
