It felt very safe, even as a solo female. There were pit toilets. Water spigots, but the water was off. $10 a night paid by cash in an envelope, so be sure to bring exact change!

This little BLM campground has been on my radar for years and it finally made sense to stop this year.
The campground setting, among the rocks, at the Vedauwoo Recreation Area is simply beautiful. It is located very close to I 80.
This campground is situated at 8,200' elevation, so be prepared for colder temperatures and possibly snow in the shoulder seasons. The night I stayed there were high wind warnings and you really did feel it.
The campsite I snagged was level and easy to back into. I was fairly close to some rocks so it created a real sense of privacy.
The privacy of the sites and the remoteness of the area did make it feel a bit isolated and that might make some people nervous.
The pit toilets were in decent shape, especially for being late in the season.
Burford, WY, used to have a population of 1 and a gas station, but the gas station is now closed, so I would guess they might not have a population any longer.
Burford is the highest town on I 80 between NYC & San Francisco and wad the nation's smallest town.

Access was easy off 80, but road noise was minimal. The loops do have some branches that are growing into the road making it a bit tight to avoid scratches even in an a relatively low Airstream. We found a terrific spot with good views, plenty long enough for us at a bit over 32’. Water was off and there was no dump, so plan accordingly, but there were dump stations with water just outside of Cheyenne. Hiking was terrific and Laramie was close for a nice day trip. Winds can be strong through this area so time it right or be prepared for strong gusts, but worth the inconvenience. Lastly, make sure any entry points for critters are sealed up. We did get a little mouse in the camper with us. We’d definitely stay again despite our visitor and challenging winds.

Easy off the highway, and a spectacular setting. We stayed this time (a favorite stop on our cross-country travels) on a Sunday night mid-September, arriving around 5 pm to a few sites to choose from. At $5 with the pass, it can’t be beat. The faucet for water wasn’t operational and the well was, but the water was murky so we didn’t use it. In the morning the vault was fragrant and wafting; not sure why it sparked up overnight but not enough of an issue to detract from the charm of the location.

Good fire rings and picnic tables. We have a small square drop camper 13 feet with the tongue and a Tacoma. All of the campsites could accommodate our setup. There are back-in sites that have plenty of room for longer trailers but don't expect those to be available the later in the day you arrive. We got there around 4 pm with another party and there were only 2 sites available there were next to each other. The bathrooms, the problem has more to do with the residents than the campgrounds. They are not clean. We have been on a few dispersed camping trips and are accustomed to alternative means. While in public campgrounds this can be frowned upon. All of this to say if it is between sitting on someone else's excrement and over a dirt hole we prefer the latter.

This campground opens on June 1st and I guess Forestry did not get that memo. Stop before getting here to get the water you will need. We stopped in Cheyenne at the Visitor Center. We figured we would save on gas and only get a little water since Vedauwoo states they have potable water in the park. Well, they didn't on our visit so we had to run 12 miles and fill up jugs. The lady I spoke with said they had to test the water before unlocking it. Overall this has been a good visit and we will visit again.
