The winds kicked up so much that I needed all the rocks from the fire ring to hold my tent down lol. Due to the slope, I had to wake up several times each night to slide back up to the top of the tent.
There was plenty of space to explore during the day. It was very quiet, with only a handful of passersby. At night, the sky was lit with an almost full moon, absolutely stunning.

Starlink had great views of the northern sky and also had good cell signal with AT&T AND tmobile.

We stayed at a large, open spot along FR 707 or Headquarters Rd for 12 nights. This is a busy area with campers coming and going. We arrived on Wednesday evening before the 4th of July weekend. There are many spots to choose from, some far from the main road. You can drive down the roads and find multiple spots well spread out. We didn't have any luck with that approach as we were not willing to take our rig down some of the roads and the ones we could go down were full. We got lucky and found a large open area just off the road just after the reserved area for horses as you head south on Happy Jack Rd. The spot is large and you have a wonderful view of the meadow. Cows visited often but didn't ever get too close to our rig. This site could be used for multiple campers or a camper and tents. There was a large, rock firepit a this location as well.
I would suggest if you find a spot that works for you to take it. The locals frequent this location and several had their rigs parked in spots but only staying in them on the weekends.
You enter this area from exit 323 off of I-80. As you get off the interstate there is a rest area and Lincoln monument. You can fill up with potable water here for free. There is no dump station and there are signs stating not to dispose of your trash here.
Note: As you go by the rest area to enter the Pole Mountain area take a left onto Hwy 210 or Happy Jack Rd. This is a paved highway that takes you to Headquarters road. Head quarters road is marked just prior to the turn off with green sign stating Blair - Wallis. This helped us to not miss the turn off as Headquarters road is not marked otherwise. My navigation told me to take a right from the exit and I drove a lot of forest road unnecessarily to get to the location we stayed at. (I scout ahead) We could have taken our fifth wheel this way but it wasn't necessary.
AT&T was ok on our devices but Starlink worked very well here.

Didn’t see much wildlife. Completely dry camping so pack it in and pack it out. There are plenty of trash cans and a potable water spigot at the rest stop 15 min away so no reason to leave trash behind! Amazing stars and sunsets!

The sites are all dispersed and spread out very nicely. We could neither see nor hear our neighbors down the road. If I hadn’t known better I’d have thought we were the only campers there.
The site was very clean upon arrival with somewhat of a fire pit and a stack of firewood. We left that for the next campers.
The night sky’s were beautiful and we were treated to a beautiful thunderstorm one night.
Were visited daily by the free range cattle on the property. They never came through camp while we were there but were quite curious.
All in all a very peaceful 10 days.
There are no amenities at these campsites however at the entrance to the pole mountain area and Headquarters road is a The Lincoln Monument which has a potable water spigot in the parking lot as well as trash bins.

Another slight issue is the ATV's. People come up during the days, unload their ATV's, and run around all the many roads available.
Some areas are very easy to get big rigs in and some are only good for small campers or tents.
It is high in the mountains at well over 8,000 feet so if you have issues with breathing you might want to rethink staying in this area.
Some of the sites have a ton of trash from previous people staying. I wish the forest service would get off their lazy behinds and make runs in this area more often.

Spots off of the main road are much quieter, and have much more space; less neighbors. 707B side road is lovely and we have a whole sunny field to ourselves. So glad we moved on, away from the generator people that were in the “stock parking only” lot. The AT&T cell signal is much better here too. Planning to stay two nights.

We just arrived and found a perfectly beautiful spot, but the neighbors are running a super loud generator that doesn’t seem to be ending. Common courtesy apparently doesn’t exist here. We’re moving on, hoping to find another spot in the area that is quiet.

It’s really windy up here, but it’s welcomed because it keeps us cool from the summer sun. Because of the wind, we’ve found ourselves hanging out inside a lot more than out.
It’s very spacious with plenty of room to be far away from your neighbor yet you can still see your neighbor from afar.
The road in from highway 80 is a little bumpy but manageable. We have a smaller vehicle (box truck) but we’ve seen some big/long RVs up here too.
No water, no toilets. Pack it in, pack it out.
