“Quiet and convenient stay”

Reviewed Jul 22, 2017

Overall Rating

We were looking for a place to stay in the general area that would be convenient to local hiking trails. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed a weekend in late July in our 25 foot MH.

We did drive to the packer camp and found it filled with campers and their horses. However, we found 5-6 nice boondocking spots along FS-9558/Owl Creek Road. We opted for a site .9 miles from SR 83 since it had 3 bars of ATT 4G/5 bars LTE with an antenna. The nice view was a bonus. It was a very quiet stay. Dispersed camping is allowed for 16 days.

There is lots of hiking in the area and the Ranger Station in Seeley Lake can help with suggestions and maps. There are several hikes close by at Holland Lake. There is boating and fishing access along SR 83. The town of Seeley Lake has basic supplies, restaurants, etc.

There are grizzly bears in this part of Montana. Follow bear precautions. Ask at the Ranger Station for details.

i stayed here at the beginning of august and the weather was beautiful. there were lots of people camping with their horses through the weekend but it eventually cleared out. there is also water available and tons of hiking in the area. i would highly recommend this spot. no AT&T cell service. oh and it is posted that there is a large population of bears in the area, so be aware.
