Early March it was warm enough to paddleboard which we found more enjoyable on the cove down the road from the main lake!
The road in was in good condition with a bit of wash board in places. Plenty of campsites to choose from.
The bugs came out en masse during the evening so have fire going or take a break and go inside for a bit.
Trash service kept the two dumpsters empty and the area was clean for as much use as it gets.
The only negative thing I would say is the amount of military jets flying over early in the morning and at times late at night. If you don't mind the noise of the jets, it can be fun to watch and wonder what is going on.

I’m revising my review after a massive bug infestation after dusk.We spent the night smacking them and used bug spray and citronella candles and now out walls and ceiling look like there was a mass murder. We both itch and won’t be back.

The free area looked like a sweet place but a few too many folks for us today. Dogs needed to roam after a long drive. Sounds a great pull off just before the lake entrance and free we roamed. Roads and pull outs just fine to drive and park on.

There’s one big area near the boat launch with official looking spots all parked in a row, another large area with people parked very close to each other up on the ridge and lots of more private spots right on the waters edge. If you do go with a waters edge spot though, you are right next to the road. Maybe it’s quieter when it’s not a holiday weekend, but it was pretty constant when we were there.
It’s easy access and nicely grated, any rig should make it just fine.
The views over the lake are spectacular and the sunsets gorgeous, but right around sunset hour the mosquitoes came out with a vengeance. 2 of our nights were super windy which kept them away but the other 2 were awful.
Cell service was great for both AT&T and Verizon with zero issues for working.

Great spot! We came in from the north, which is a nice ~6 mile easy dirt road. Coming in from the south would be 3-4 miles of easy dirt road. We camped at the main area, just south of the boat launch, which is up on a little plateau and overlooks the lake and palms. During our time on the road, this is so far the busiest BLM place we've been, with big rigs parking pretty close to get a spot. That said, everyone was very friendly and considerate, and it was a nice change of pace to have some company! We were here for New Years, but no fireworks were allowed and, aside from some music, it was very calm. Big horn sheep in the area and plentiful hiking. Spotty Verizon for working from the road, streaming shows, etc. -- had to pull out the WeBoost and it was fine. Trash and a clean bathroom available at the boat launch.
Yuma is only 20-30 min away and is a great town! Recommend visiting the prison, learning about the Colorado river, checking out main street, and of course eating some dates. We heard great things about Martha's Date Farm tours. If you are interested in going to Mexico, many people recommended Los Algondones (we heard this too late and instead went to San Luis Rio Colorado which people do NOT recommend).
Dump and water:
On our way (heading east) out we stopped at Circle K (https://www.campendium.com/mobile-gas-station-yuma-az) to dump and fill but dump was out of order. We still filled water. Not labeled as potable but we were assured it is.
Then, went to Chevron up the road (https://www.campendium.com/chevron-gas-station-wellton-az) -- big huge parking lot for dumping, 3 stations, $10. Not sure if that water is potable.
