On April 18 our first time out in 2022 we camped in spot 76. It rained the whole 5 days we stayed here. Never the less the campground was very clean. The bathrooms were well kept, the showers were very nice and clean. Our spot was very spacious as the length was 45 feet deep on asphalt. It had a picnic table and a fire ring in a well-groomed gravel area about 30 x 30. The back of our spot was against very high trees. Our spot was on the north side of the road so when we put out our satellite unit it had lots of southern sky to find a signal from. This spot was across the road some ways away from the kids play area that was still closed due to COVID. One day we took a trip into Vernonia 11 miles away and had lunch at The Black Iron Grill. They served very good food at a reasonable price and served large portions. Vernonia also has R & S Market where we purchased some other food items we were lacking, like eggs. As this was our first time camping here, we had a very nice time. The best part was it was only 45min away from our home.

We had a wonderful experience here. We booked our site online and after confirmation we noticed that there was quite a bit of snow ❄️. We were to arrive on Thursday and was a bit concerned about being able to get in the site. We got ahold of the Ranger on duty who was very helpful. Ranger Todd went to our site and told us that there was about 5” of snow. He said that the sun was on it and was melting and was sure we could still get into the site. He even went as far as texting us pictures. We had a wonderful time while we stayed. Very nice campgrounds big sites clean facilities and friendly staff. Lots of trails to hike as well as frisbee golf courses. Also a great mountain bike riding area from easy to extreme.

We stayed in the lower "West" loop with sites having lots of trees and shrubbery separating most of the sites. There's a disc golf course among the trees, lots of hiking and mountain biking trails. The large day use area has amazing views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Don't forget to bring the bikes, there's a paved Banks-Vernonia State Trail which includes the 80-foot high Buxton Trestle bridge.

Check-in was a bit confusing. We checked in online but we weren’t sure if we needed to go to the office on arrival. As we were pondering what to do, a ranger happened by, checked that our site was ready and told us we could head on in. BTW - there are large parking areas for RVs by the office but you can’t see them from the road. The interior roads are paved but it can be tight maneuvering for larger rigs. It’s nice to have full hookups in a state park. We and some friends had a couple weird electrical issues occur but we never figured it out if it was us or the park. Sites are paved at the entrance (ours had chalk all over it from kids playing) and the rest is gravel – that tiny stuff that you drag into your RV. Most sites are fairly level – ours wasn’t but we managed. The site was plenty long enough for our 45er and toad. All sites have a large gravel patio area. There is nice spacing between sites but no privacy at least in the East section. Some of the treed sites in the west section have some privacy. There is no WII FI but Verizon was 4g 2 bars so we used our hot spots. Satellite is possible in some sites. It is pretty quiet at night but busy during the days with lots of kids running around and dogs barking. There are playgrounds and traills to hike/bike on. The closest winery is about 20 minutes and shopping is also about 20-25 minutes away.

The spots are a bit close but much better then a RV park. Hook ups are clean and well maintained. ATT service is good enough that I'm posting this from the camp using my hot spot.

We just finished a weekend camping at a mountain biker's dream State Park in Oregon called L.L. Stub Steward (aka Stub). Camping is centrally located to well-designed mountain bike trails (thanks to Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA) volunteers). If you are a rider you will want to visit Stub.
The Park is well maintained and there is a sense of pride expressed by the Rangers and volunteers.

OMG! This place gets the highest rating in all areas. Restroom/shower building is immaculate; bright and sparkling clean. The staff keeps it that way with regular cleaning. needed some TLC and showed its wear lacking general maintenance. Had air dryers for hands, but wished for paper towels in restroom area for clean-up (realize it is statewide).
Individual uni-sex showers with hot water and good pressure fully tiled. Very nice design feature was a separator “pony” wall between the changing area with built in bench and shower stall with soap dish. Kept the water spray away from the changing alcove / stayed dry for toweling off. Ample wall hooks – other parks / campgrounds should use this design as a model for perfect showering experience
The grounds are well kept and all sites cleaned / raked after use ready for next camper. Most all sites have full hook-ups, are all level and are roomy with wide greenspace between sites. All have gravel pads with large picnic table and fire pit ring. will accommodate a variety of dinning/shade canopies on the gravel area only metal stake will work. All interior roads are paved easy access for all sized rigs. Separate walk-in tenting area plus a tent allowed with an RV on site. Hiking/biking trails everywhere – even has pumped air on trail for bikes if needed. And it has a disk golf course right in the campground

A little disappointing was the closeness of the main Hwy. 47 running close to the campground, as you can hear it. This road is a fairly main road taking residents to Vernonia.
We did not have the opportunity to walk some of the trails, but they looked like a nice activity.

The visitors center/check in has a small store with mainly beverages and some snacks. There is a bike repair station complete with water and tools. The day use area is at the top has stunning views, clean bathrooms, frisbee golf, shelter, and picnic areas. There is no noise here outside of what is going on in the park and a rare airplane overhead. The night sky is brilliant. Firewood and Ice is available at each loop, $5 and $3 respectively. Cell service was solid throughout the park with AT&T.
I did not use the horse or cabin sites, but a drive through told me the area was very clean and beautiful.
Not all sites have shade or direct sun, use google earth to pic your preference. There are no showers in the RV loop I stayed at.
