As we had been here before, it was an easy drive in on US-26 to the campground (CG). What we didn’t do was read our 2019 review on whether we needed to stop at the park building that sits down the hill from the main road. The way it looks from the road, there isn't any RV parking, but as we rolled past the exit, we saw there actually was RV parking. The next road happened to be our loop, Daisy Creek, so we went ahead and backed into our site, 52, with FHUs. The pad starts with asphalt and then goes to gravel, where you actually park the rig. After setting up, we walked down to the park building, and the rangers had just opened their check-in windows. Since we were pre-registered, we could have printed out our confirmation email and placed that on the dashboard. However, they gave us a rearview mirror tag so we wouldn't have to print off our confirmation. The water and sewer hookups were in the middle of the site, with electric being at the back of the pad. The water pressure was not very good at around 35 psi. We had a clear shot to the north sky for Starlink, but it's doubtful we’d get a southern sky shot from this site due to the mature trees. We got 3 bars LTE on Verizon. There is a good variety of sites for RVs, large and small. There are also tent sites to include a walk-in tent area near the main building where you register. Since we were here last time, they now have an off-leash fenced dog area. What makes this CG so special is the multitude of hiking, biking, and horse trails. They even have a disc golf course within the park. The CG is close to Portland, but you'd never know you were that close to a major city.

This was the first park we camped with our trailer 3 years ago. We have been here more than a dozen times.
It’s a very nice state park conveniently located 30 miles from Portland and less than 60 miles from the Oregon coast.
The west loop is a little more secluded. Our favorite site is 42. We were in 38 this time and it is not very level.
For the last three years they have been loose with check in times. If the site was ready and clean, you could check in. Now they were very strict about the 4 o’clock check-in time. If you arrive early park near the welcome center.

We encountered only 1 hiker and 1 disc gold player on our hike. The disc gold coarse is thru the forest--pretty kool. The 22 mi paved trail from Banks to Vernonia, with the ST Pk aboutn in the middle, is a GREAT ride.

On April 18 our first time out in 2022 we camped in spot 76. It rained the whole 5 days we stayed here. Never the less the campground was very clean. The bathrooms were well kept, the showers were very nice and clean. Our spot was very spacious as the length was 45 feet deep on asphalt. It had a picnic table and a fire ring in a well-groomed gravel area about 30 x 30. The back of our spot was against very high trees. Our spot was on the north side of the road so when we put out our satellite unit it had lots of southern sky to find a signal from. This spot was across the road some ways away from the kids play area that was still closed due to COVID. One day we took a trip into Vernonia 11 miles away and had lunch at The Black Iron Grill. They served very good food at a reasonable price and served large portions. Vernonia also has R & S Market where we purchased some other food items we were lacking, like eggs. As this was our first time camping here, we had a very nice time. The best part was it was only 45min away from our home.

We had a wonderful experience here. We booked our site online and after confirmation we noticed that there was quite a bit of snow ❄️. We were to arrive on Thursday and was a bit concerned about being able to get in the site. We got ahold of the Ranger on duty who was very helpful. Ranger Todd went to our site and told us that there was about 5” of snow. He said that the sun was on it and was melting and was sure we could still get into the site. He even went as far as texting us pictures. We had a wonderful time while we stayed. Very nice campgrounds big sites clean facilities and friendly staff. Lots of trails to hike as well as frisbee golf courses. Also a great mountain bike riding area from easy to extreme.

Check-in was a bit confusing. We checked in online but we weren’t sure if we needed to go to the office on arrival. As we were pondering what to do, a ranger happened by, checked that our site was ready and told us we could head on in. BTW - there are large parking areas for RVs by the office but you can’t see them from the road. The interior roads are paved but it can be tight maneuvering for larger rigs. It’s nice to have full hookups in a state park. We and some friends had a couple weird electrical issues occur but we never figured it out if it was us or the park. Sites are paved at the entrance (ours had chalk all over it from kids playing) and the rest is gravel – that tiny stuff that you drag into your RV. Most sites are fairly level – ours wasn’t but we managed. The site was plenty long enough for our 45er and toad. All sites have a large gravel patio area. There is nice spacing between sites but no privacy at least in the East section. Some of the treed sites in the west section have some privacy. There is no WII FI but Verizon was 4g 2 bars so we used our hot spots. Satellite is possible in some sites. It is pretty quiet at night but busy during the days with lots of kids running around and dogs barking. There are playgrounds and traills to hike/bike on. The closest winery is about 20 minutes and shopping is also about 20-25 minutes away.

The spots are a bit close but much better then a RV park. Hook ups are clean and well maintained. ATT service is good enough that I'm posting this from the camp using my hot spot.
