This is a great site for big rigs. We had no trouble getting our 36ft fifth wheel to the site. Close to the main road but not too close. Convenient to most of the park. Be aware that as of Jan 1st the back country sites like this one must be reserved though Recreation.gov.

You have to visit the Panther Junction Visitor Center to reserve one of the more remote sites. Some of the sites will accommodate an RV and some won't. We got lucky all of the other sites were reserved for the night but this one.The cost was 12.00 or 6.00 with Senior Park Pass. It's located 5 miles from the Panther Junction visitor center a short distance from Hwy 385. You have to take a dirt road for about a 1/4mile. The site is huge and would easily accommodate 4-5 RVs. There is no one else around for a couple of miles. The best part was the stars and the coyote serenading us. The Big Bend National Park does have an RV park in Rio Grande Village. There are hundreds of miles of trails for hiking. We will be back

Hannold Draw is a primitive backcountry camping permit site. $12 total for your stay. Acquire permit only at Panther Junction visitor center. Then they provide directions. Site off main road to Marathon, near Panther Jct so very central to day trip within the park. Located descretely behind maintenance yard near old corral. For sight seeing: advise against driving the old Maverick road, not worth the bumps, rubble or dust. Be sure to check out hot springs in early morning before crowds and pop over to Mexico for lunch. 5 dollar ferry & 5 dollar burro or truck ride to town (cash only) to lunch at either of 2 resturants. Entire park can be hot, regular triple digits and only 0.1 in of rain for first 4 months of 2018, and very windy. Water refill at PJ visitor center, great bookstore with AC and post office too. Great night skies!
