Stayed 3 nights midweek. We would not stay again for several reasons:
~Camp host was mean, unpleasant, and confrontational (hence the 2 star rating)
~Hwy 89 traffic noise made it unpleasant to enjoy the surroundings (traffic dies down late at night but starts up early in the am)
~Weeds surrounding campsite were so high could barely walk around our RV (I had to use clippers to cut down the weeds in front of our door)
Website said potable water available so upon arrival we began to top off (we were 2/3 full) our trailer holding tank when the camp host stopped and grumpily said it was a "federal fine" to fill our tank with a hose despite there being NO SIGNS forbidding filling of tanks (our friends had filled their tank the day before and the camp host told them it was ok). Host then walked over and turned off the water spigot. I continued to ask him about the rule (he said it's not a "rule" but a "fine" by the ranger) and he got meaner and meaner I could not continue the conversation (I was trying to understand...we stay at many NFS campgrounds and was never told this before).
When we arrived at our site, the reservation tag did not reflect our dates or our initials (made the reservation online 2 days prior). I double-checked my reso, we were good, so we parked. Two days later I brought it to the camp hosts' attention because incorrect tag said it was check-out day but we were booked for one more night and he (again) grumpily said it was his day off but he'd tell the ranger. Shortly later he returned and changed the tag with the correct info reflecting our reservation.
Our site was level and long enough (although narrow) for our 35' 5th wheel. Pit toilets were clean although started to smell the day we left. We enjoyed kayaking on less busy nearby Prosser Lake.

Very clean campground. The grounds are very well maintained and these are the cleanest vault toilets I’ve even seen at any campground. Sites are level and paved. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. And while some sites are close together, most of them along the river give you plenty of room. There are no hookups or dump station but there is potable water throughout the campground. There are places to dump close by. Road noise from Hiway 89 is loud but less noticeable at night. Bring earplugs for a good nights sleep.

This was an amazing park. Unfortunately, we arrived as fires were raging south of us, so there was smoke. When I checked in, there was a notice that we should only pay for one night (self serve) because they were evacuating the park at noon the next day. We were right on the river, there were lots of open spaces. The sites were long, a bit narrow, and paved. Close to level.
The river was pristine and you could see rocks on the bottom. Pit toilets, no showers., no hookups.
I will go back. I wanted to stay a week (14 day limit). With my America the Beautiful pass, the cost was $11 a night instead of $22.
We could hear traffic (right next to the highway) but it didn't bother me.

Spent 2 nights. Long flat pad for the trailer. Big table Firering. BBQ and bear box. Our site about 50 yards from the Truckee River. Only drawback is that it is close to state rt 89 So you do notice the traffic noise a bit

Loved this location, 55 is on an island with others but has a path that gives you easy access to the river. It’s close to 89 so you will hear cars and see some lights at night. This wasn’t an issue for us. No hookups in this pull through site.

We stayed here 6 nights in late May/early June. While it is true that it is right off hwy 89, so you have that noise, the campground's proximity to the Truckee River and beautiful views more than make up for it. Plus, it's close to Truckee, Tahoe City, and Donner State Park, so lots of hiking and water adventures to explore. We didn't see any wildlife, except a few birds and chipmunks, but we were warned by the camp host that there is a bear that frequents the campground. The water was too cold for swimming, but there are several pockets of shallow, slow moving water along the river and a small trail too. The camp host said fishing from the campground was okay, and we saw several folks fishing.
Sites are paved and level. There are toilets and water spigots, though we didn't use the toilets so no review there. The campground road is full of large bumps due to tree roots, I think. They act as natural speed bumps, but they are random, so pay attention.
The campground was busy. We always had neighbors, most for a night or two.
Oh, our Google phones had great service, they run on Spring and TMoble. Not sure which was getting the good signal. Our Verizon phone got okay service too. We didn't try our ATT phone.
It's a beautiful place and we would absolutely stay here again.

Pay at the self serve station, so bring cash.
I would recommend for a quick trip or overnight spot.

Fishing is not allowed in the river from campgrounds. Big negative is the road noise from highway 89. Truckee is a short drive and North Lake Tahoe is within 10 miles. Threaded potable water spigots are located through out the campground. There is no dump station. The closest dump station is at the Chevron Gas Station, 12353 Deerfield Dr Truckee, CA 96161 phone (530) 587-6022. It costs $8.88 with fill up, otherwise $10. There are frequent bear sightings at this campground however, we did not see a bear during our stay.
