Forest Road 29 Dispersed Camping

I work remote and travel out of my camper full time. I took one of the center spots and have my Starlink in the middle. It works well for streaming and general use but can be spotty on video calls so I otherwise use my hot spot on my phone as I have Verizon and get 3-4 bars. I’ve spent my time doing hikes in Olympic after work.

This spot is about 25-30 minutes from Mount Storm King and Marymere Falls. It’s about 35 from Sol Duc Falls, the hot springs resort, and High Divide & Seven Lakes Basin. There’s Beaver General Store about 15 mins away that has groceries, liquor, etc and gas stops even closer off Olympic.

There’s logging that’s happening off of this road so you will hear semis throughout the day working.

Typically there’s 1-3 other sets of campers but I haven’t seen it fill up. The spot I’m in was level so I didn’t need to use blocks.

I haven’t had any issues with other campers making noise or anything like that. A lot of people stay for an overnight or so. The sites are clean. The road itself has some debris from teenagers if I had to guess but not the site itself.

Would stay again if I come back to Olympic.

Verizon speed was 27 Mbps download/13 Mbps upload. TMobile was 30/14. I couldn't get ATT to run a speed test. Verizon/TMobile were with a roof mounted Pepwave antenna and ATT was via phone.

This is a great spot about halfway between Olympic's Hoh section and the main Port Angeles section. The formal USFS campground across the highway was closed at the time, but might be a good place to get water and dump your trash if they allow it. Do your laundry and grocery shopping before you get here - not much nearby.

The USFS road to get here is paved and in pretty good shape. No issues with low or scraping branches. We arrived on a Monday morning and only one other camper was there. The coordinates are at an oblong clearing about 200 feet across at the widest.

There was little trash to speak of. The only road noise came from 1-2 logging trucks per hour but that doesn't continue into the night. We didn't have issues getting level with standard methods.

There's a variety of shade options. We were able to get good solar production and Starlink wouldn't have issues with obstructions here.

As of 8/30/22, to get there you'll need to take Mary Clark rd which is about 7 miles east of where the GPS takes you. They are doing some sort of construction which is blocking the direct path to get there.
We ended up staying at bear creek which is just down the road, need to have a smaller sized rig though (probably under 25 ft trailer)

We were never alone, but there were much fewer campers during the week. There was a mix of tent campers and all kinds of RVs, as there's room for any size rig. There is a mix of shade and sun, but it it's too shady for your solar, you can continue on Forest Road 29 for a few nights and there is another clearing with much more sun.

It is a great spot to explore the northern and western side of the Olympic Peninsula. We also enjoyed taking our bikes just down the road to the Olympic Discovery Trail - highly recommended. You can fill water jugs at the campground across the highway, just a3 minute drive, at no cost.

Also, don't be deterred by the road closed sign at the entrance - if you read the small print it says that it's closed 18 miles in, so access is no problem.
