I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in site #B520, a FHU, PT site for $28 plus the National Park pass. Roads were asphalt and the sites were gravel. The sites are what I call “crescents” as they are parallel to the road. The roads are tiered up the side of the mountain so even though there isn’t much space between you and the next tier up, you don’t look right into their rig. The sites are also offset so the ones across the road from you are not directly across. I would try to get one of the even numbered sites on the 800 row – there is no one on one side of you and huge space out your front door. We liked the Trailer Court better than the other two campgrounds nearby for having more trees and easier to navigate with larger trailers. You could easily hear the trains go through, but it wasn’t terrible inside the rig. The views from the road at the bottom of the hill were fantastic, but most spots in the campground couldn’t see them for all the trees (not a complaint, just an observation.) Connectivity: varied widely dependent on how full the campground was (cell tower loading). In mid-week, I had 2-3 bars 5G with Verizon International plan, but on weekends I only got 1-2 bars LTE which wasn’t enough to open email or stream. No wifi or OTA channels. In town the connection was great with 3-4 bars 5G, 47.8 mbps download speeds. The bus service to town and other attractions was great and I highly recommend taking it as finding parking was difficult even at the end of the season. The IGA grocery store had a good selection of food and has dedicated parking which was a huge bonus. Lots of great hiking in the area including some trails that start right at the campground. We bought an Adventure Pass package. It included 5 things: Golden Skybridge (lots of fun adult activities), Jasper Lake Maligne boat tour, Icefield Parkway glacier walk and Skywalk visit (saw mountain goats there), Banff gondola ride, and Lake Minnewanka boat tour. All five were great! And the package was a really good deal when you added up what it would cost to do all of those individually. We also went to the hot springs which felt wonderful after hiking Johnston Canyon to the Ink Pots (fabulous hikes…) There is a reason Banff is so popular. I can’t recommend it more highly. I will definitely come back.

Starlink worked well so I could work during the day and play in the afternoon/evenings. Fun to walk around the campground and see elk nearby. The bus is free to Banff, but not the way back. Still, the proximity to Banff is so convenient. It's a huge campground, 322 sites, so the site location makes a difference. It's a huge campground, 322 sites, so the site location makes a difference. Also, the sign on the road must always say that it's full during peak season, but there were available sites, even day of.
The only available sites were shared, though. Look at a campground map and you'll see 8 parallel roads. The campsites are on pulloffs. Most of the places are pull thrus, because you're the only vehicle occupying the pulloff. In the B and C sections however, the sites closest to the perpendicular roads that divide the campground into A, B, and C, are shared. So if you have a choice, choose an unshared site. The 300 and 600 roads have the most inconvenient access to the showers and bathrooms, which are quite clean and well-maintained.
If you want elk near your campground, choose a site on the perimeter, especially a high number site (e.g., 450). If you want to be closer to the bus stop, choose a low number site.

We arrived on a Sunday without reservations. Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court and Tunnel Mountain Village II both have the same entrance gate. The sign at the entrance said the park was full, but we pulled in anyway and asked if there were any open sites and there was, but for just 1 night. We ended up staying 3 nights by site hoping.
The campground(s) is huge and really designed for RV's. Most these sites can handle any size rig. All sites are pull throughs, although some are shared pull throughs. There are a series of parallel paved tiered roads with spurs off to either side. The upper loop, upper side have the most green space. Flush toilets, showers, dump station, trash, recycling, tables, no fire pit as no fires allowed, trail access from the campground for hiking and mountain biking.
There is a public bus that takes you to town with stops at various places in the campgrounds. It is free to ride down, fare is required to return.
Big rigs, if you want to avoid downtown Banff traffic take the Tunnel Mountain exit from Highway 1!

They have a little bit of every style camping- tents, PHU, FHU.
Check in was busy and a bit of a pain with long lines but once you’re in, you’ll love it! Banff —even at its busiest—is a beautiful place!

We stayed here for 1 night last year and vowed to come back! We booked our spot as soon as Parks Canada opened their reservation system. They go fast so book early! We had site 624 in the B section. We had site 624 in the B section. It was perfect. The 400-600s are the best because you don’t hear the road noise. If you are I. The 800s you hear the noise much more from the highway. The 600s are right between the 2 bathroom/shower facilities. Great location.
Full hookups. Power was steady. Sites are far apart so privacy is great.
Do yourself a favour and do the loop hike that goes around the campground. Bring bear spray. It’s beautiful and is about 6km. Or just do half. We saw a coyote on our hike.
They have garbage and recycling, and the bathrooms are kept nice and clean. We might come back next year and stay longer! Can’t beat it.
Cell coverage was with Telus - 1-2 bars the entire stay but we were able to stream the football game and do email etc. no wifi.

Spent 4 nites here, first time in Banff. Nice park but never experienced shared sites before. They were ok, really no issues. Lots of elk and ground squirrels near sites so keep your food protected. Overall, really enjoyed it because of its location and full hook ups. Total cost for 5 nites was C$215. We paid for 5 nights but stayed for 4 because we wanted to check out Golden. We had to be back home by a certain day so we cut Banff short. But definitely will return.

Stayed here two nights. Can’t beat the proximity to Banff and the facilities were very clean, but there is almost no privacy. We got there only to be told we were in a shared site, and could also see the people on the other side of us clearly with only a metre or so between. There is no “free” camping in Banff or Jasper national parks if you’re visiting for several days so this was our best bet. Conveniently located to downtown Banff (we walked from one of the farthest campsites and it took about 40 minutes), good cell service with ATT (able to work/have zoom calls), great showers, and easy pull throug... more

Conveniently located to downtown Banff (we walked from one of the farthest campsites and it took about 40 minutes), good cell service with ATT (able to work/have zoom calls), great showers, and easy pull through sites. Also saw plenty of elk walking throughout the campground. This was our second stay and we would stay again.
Highly recommend taking the shuttle into Banff, especially if you have a dually during peak season.
