This campground is USFS, and the hosts do an excellent job in keeping it in good condition. There is some "deferred maintenance" by USFS (one of women's toilets out of commission, leaking fresh water pipe), but by-and-large, it is in good shape. Pretty level sites, not crowded together, great scenery even from sites. Fresh water and sewer hookups at sites. A few sites are reservable, most are First-come, First-serve.
Only saw one Class A, and it may have been a host's. The dead-end road in from Apache Junction is about 17 miles long from Idaho Road. Much of it, past Needle Vista, is very narrow, very winding (many 90-degree and hairpin turns), and the lane returning is often own the edge of a significant drop-off. Saw one car fallen off. Average posted speeds on this run between 15 and 25 mph.
Some road noise from the Tortilla Flats restaurant complex, but not significant. No Verizon coverage at all in vicinity

Beautiful views snuggled down in a canyon. Easy walk to Tortilla Flats which is basically a place to get sightseers to part ways with their money, but worth a look see. I had a ginormous spot that was level, water and sewer at site. No electric hookups I don’t think. The first level as you drive in is all closed, not sure why, but it looks as if it’s been closed a while. The next level down is all first come first serve! Yay! So many campgrounds have done away with FCFS it’s an absolute shame. The final lowest level is all reservable. There’s not a lot to do except admire the scenery and use a pair of binoculars to see what you can see. There are a couple of hikes nearby but from what I understand they’re pretty difficult. The terrain is very rough with a lot of insecure rocks and boulders. If you’re a kayaker, then you’ll be in heaven because Canyon Lake is just down the road. The hosts were friendly and very helpful. The only reason for 4 stars is the amount of sand in the water. I thought using a filter would prevent this from getting into my system, but nope. Had I know I wouldn’t have filled up there. $20/night. Also astounded at the excellent cell service.

Did one night here as part of a western excursion. I would have stayed longer but the area was unseasonably cool and rainy while I was there. Sites are fairly level with enough space between. Bathrooms were decent enough. Within walking distance to Tortilla Flat. There had been quite a bit of rain recently and Tortilla Creek was running strong, high enough to cover the road in Tortilla Flat. The creek created a nice sound of running water below the lowest loop of the campground. Views and scenery are exceptional from most sites. Good proximity to all manner of outdoor activities. Kayaked the better part of Canyon Lake during my stay, and it was just a couple of minutes to the put in, although the ramp I wanted to use was shut down due to someone driving their Class A down the ramp into 8 feet of water. The next put in was only a mile down the road. The only downside to camping here is the road leading to the campground, East Apache Trail coming in from Apache Junction. Good road the first few miles, but the last 4-5 is hilly with mostly 20 mph tight turns and switchbacks, which might be difficult for a larger rig or a TV pushing the limits of its tow capacity. No problem with my teardrop though. If the road is busy at all, be prepared to stop and start frequently due to other drivers stopping in the roadway from apprehension about the curves, or from sightseeing while driving instead of using one of the many pulloffs. While I was there motorcycles passing on blind curve double yellows was a real issue, but it's their life, not mine. Would definitely stay here again when in the area.

The Tortilla Flats area is awesome and is worth spending a few days enjoying the scenery, lakes, hiking, off roading, etc. The FS campground is great, has good folks for hosts and with well kept facilities, is a good place to camp. The road from Apache Junction has some tight curves but lanes are reasonable width so not too nerve wracking. The only detraction for us was the road noise, especially the motorcycles on weekends. Water and sewer at most sites. All but a very few sites are FCFS. Pretty much all back in sites are manageable, level and allow for angled back in. Campground has dump station with water but water hose has the usual fitting with nonusable end. Also if using solar, the sun goes behind the mountain by 5 at the latest depending on which row you’re on. Probably 6 hours of good sun at most.

Check in was Self Serve Machine. (A Camp Host will stop by to confirm.)The rules are fairly basic. Be aware, Highway 88 from Apache Junction is very narrow and winding. If you are not comfortable with your Big Rig you might want to reconsider. There are 40 footers in the park though.
Our site, 63, was a back in that was long enough for our Coach and wide enough Towed. Services (NO POWER but water and sewer) were to the left side. Distancing is very reasonable. Most sites have a tree or shrub as a vegetation barrier. Each site has a table and a fire pit. Our site was flat but sloped to the rear. Overall the park was pretty and well manicured.
Our Verizon internet would not allow us to connect to the internet. Apparently the tower is owned by AT&T and will not allow a competitor to connect. We did find a few OTA TV. Satellite might be difficult because of the terrain. We did not use the “Flush Toilet” washrooms but we checked and found them clean.
There is a marked trail that runs across the wash (creek if has recently rained) that leads up to a peak above the Campground. There are other hiking trails accessible from along the Apache Trail. There is a very small store and restaurant in the small settlement of Tortilla Flat but most services will be found in Apache Junction.
We found this park to be a well run campground. We paid $20.00 per night and we feel we received good value. We will be back if in the area again. Be advised, this is a very popular park and fills up on occasion. Only a very few sites are available to reserve. The vast majority are first come first served.

There is alot to do around the campground. Tortilla Flat is just outside of the campground. They have stores, dining and live entertainment. (Great ice cream cones too!). Canyon Lake is close by. Make sure you go on the Dolly steamboat tour. (Reservations are needed) It holds great scenery and sightings of big horn sheep and eagles, among other wildlife. Goldfield Ghost Town was a great place to visit. It is an old western town with gunfights. Great if you want the old west feel.
The roads are VERY winding. If you have a large rig, make sure you go slow.
