“Beautiful but can be crowded on the weekends”

Reviewed Jun 03, 2018

Overall Rating

Quartz Creek Campground sits between Kenai Lake and Quartz Creek. It’s a beautiful location with water access and views. When we arrived on a Saturday, the campground was full, but we lucked into a cancelled reservation for a waterfront site.

Pros: beautiful location, large sites.
Cons: can be packed on the weekends with reservations, cell service is pretty iffy and wasn’t fast enough for working. Bathrooms aren’t maintained very well. Dump station costs an additional $8.

Kenai Riverfront Resort would stay here again

“It's All About the Lake....Kenai Lake is BEAUTIFUL!”

Reviewed Mar 28, 2016

Overall Rating

We've been camping at Quartz Creek campground, and using their FREE boat launch (pray it will always be so) to get out on Kenai Lake, for many many years...probably since about 1986. It's changed over the years, from dirt sites, to paved, and now mostly gravel and the facilities have been upgraded over the years too. Some flushing toilets, some pit. Water for filling things, but no water or electric at sites. Septic dump and water filling station is across the road from the entrance, so hit it on the way in or out or even if just passing through the Cooper Landing area if needed. Easy access even for big rigs.

We love this campground, it's part of our family history now, and we've enjoyed many summer nights under the midnight sun, but even more so we've enjoyed camping here in fall when the birch colors vibrantly light up around the lake, the hillsides turn crimson in fall glory, the northern lights start peaking out, and the crowds of summer have waned. Our only gripe at all would be that it's gotten tougher and tougher to get a campsite here now that most everyone has found this hidden gem--even in fall.

You can book reservations online in advance if you're that organized, but give it a try even spontaneously like we have many times and if you're lucky enough you'll be in for a treat. The sites along the water on the loop to the right as you enter are the best!

Alaska (Chapter 14) – Aug 2017

Last stops on the Kenai Peninsula. As we depart the Kenai, it seemed appropriate to show a few pictures that reflect Alaskan culture: birds, bears and fish. We diverted from the main “highway” onto...
