Staying at this campground with anything larger than a popup is a crap shoot. The "road" is very narrow and single lane and mostly bordered on both sides with trees and a ditch. It rained for several days before we arrived and there's a lot of standing water -- that may or may not be due to the rain. Out of the 42 sites here, only a handful are large enough and accessible enough to maneuver anything larger than a popup.
But IF one of those few sites is available, this can be a great place if you like rustic boondock camping. The beach is gorgeous and a very easy walk from several campsites. It is generally quiet here, but there are streets and houses that border the north side of the campground and there was suburb-type noise from there in the afternoon.
In general, this is typical of a Michigan State Forest campground: small sites with poor accessibility but in a good location. The sites have picnic tables and a fire ring but nothing else. There are vault toilets but we didn't use them. The only water is from hand pumped wells. The sites are generally not level, but can be made to work with leveling blocks. We got fairly good throughput from two bars of service on both Verizon and AT&T.

Large sites often separated by trees and undergrowth. Many sites in the North section have access to a very nice sandy beach. Surprisingly, for Lake Huron, the bottom is sandy in a good portion of the swimming area. Good Host on site who keeps the facilities stocked with teepee and reasonably clean. Most campers were very quiet and considerate but a few were running generators non stop during the day. There is a lot of swamp surrounding the campground but on our visit in late July there were very few bugs, even at dusk, so they may be spraying to reduce their numbers. Decent area for riding bicycles and taking walks. Only one of the hand pumps is functional and you will need a wide mouth container to catch the scattered outflow. All in all we enjoyed our stay and will definitely return in the future.

Great campground on the shore of Thunder Bay. Several (15 or so) sites along the water with a great many more in the woods. Arrived on a Saturday and was able to get a beach site, less than a 50 yard walk to the water. Great sunrises over Lake Huron. My site (15) had a historical marker and a gravesite dated 1865, the only one in the park I found. Cool.
Typical state forest campground with only picknick table and fire ring, pit toilets. Entrance is in the back end of a residential area and is a bit off the beaten path.
You really need to grab a beach site!
