Used to be a nice campground and lack back in the 60's. went out to the lake last year and someone took the water out of the lake. no lake. like a ghost town. and afer all these years the road to the campground is still full of potholes and will tear your car up. bad road, no water, o fish, and the little town (fort winga... more
Used to be a nice campground and lack back in the 60's. went out to the lake last year and someone took the water out of the lake. no lake. like a ghost town. and afer all these years the road to the campground is still full of potholes and will tear your car up. bad road, no water, o fish, and the little town (fort wingate) is all shuttered up.

What a find! Just off the main dirt road to your left. Beautiful level site with wonderful views. Quiet with rock fire pits and plenty of firewood around. Just a short drive from I40. (The main campground was closed so keep going and take the first left dirt road to the dispersed camping area.)

We were unable to camp there. Camp grounds closed from Dec through March. We parked nearby and walked through the site.
