This spot is awesome and not busy at all during the time we were here. Most nights we had the place to ourselves! Very well kept campground with trash cans, grills, picnic tables, and port-a-potties available. Each site is right on the river with openings to put in kayaks and go fishing! Pretty quiet even with the freeway nearby. Construction is going on with the bridges/roads right before the park entrance but we had no issues getting through with bridge clearances or road work with our truck and travel trailer. You do need a permit to stay here which you can email online during regular business hours to obtain. They allow a 3-6 night permit. We stayed for the full 6 and enjoyed our time there.
Spots are paved and level and lots of grass for younger ones to run around and play. Lots of shops, restaurants, and things to do all around the area. Highly recommend!

Can't get into the park from Northbound 69E with a big rig. Road isn't marked until its too late to turn around. Middle road of the bridge is marked at 12'6", but is more like 11'. Ours is 12'8" and it looked to be about a foot and a half lower than the top of our rig when we pulled up to it to gauge how accurate the marking is.
Had to turn around at the underpass and go the wrong way back up the one-way service road/on ramp to get back out.
Entry from South Bound 69E is possible with the current construction, BUT you must stop where the onramp meets the long park entrance "access road" and back up about a 1/4 mile down the narrow entrance lane to get in if you're over 11' tall or want to come in from the Southbound side of 69E.
We were not given adequate info on this when we got our permit. We did receive an email with some details on the construction, but it said there should be an onramp into the park from SB 69E. In our experience, it is not the case without backing in, which was not mentioned.
Summary:
The park itself seems very nice! Highway noise is audible, but not terribly disruptive. Despite the trouble getting in, it's still a nice place to stay if you have a smaller vehicle or are good at backing down a narrow lane for long distances.

We were passing through CC Texas and stayed here just one night. The folks at the CC City were very easy and friendly to work with in obtaining the required permit. Please be advised, the permit can be done over eMail, *BUT* you must obtain it during business hours. We were lucky and arrived during business hours and had the permit within an hour. If you plan to stay over a weekend, it would require getting this done before your arrival.
The grounds are well kept, but we did pick up cigarette butts from others who think that all the world is a trash can... A trash can is provided at all camp sites and picnic tables at most sites. There was some minor noise from the i37 freeway nearby but was not at all problematic.
For clarity, there are no services here, dry camping only. Specifically, no water.
There are approximately 10 camping spots that are level and right beside the river.
The spot we used is:
27.892502, -97.631023
There is a tributary to the river at this spot and plenty of jumping fish and bird activity in the river.
A great stop and we would certainly stay here again if passing through.

The pull-off’s are large enough for a smaller RV. I’m pulling a tear drop and had zero problems. Even when I had to make a u-turn from the pull-off. There are 3 on site port-a-potties, and I will say, the one I used was exceptionally clean (for a port-a-potty). This park is located directly off the HWY. you will hear road traffic. However, it’s not strong enough to keep you up or anything. Cell reception is ok. You can casually browse internet. I wouldn’t try to upload anything. I watched some YouTube videos no problem. You must email Texas Park N Rec to obtain a free camping permit. You can stay up to 6 nights here. Email Jose Ramirez: JoseR3@cctexas.com
He’ll need your name, car make and color, what nights you’re staying, address, phone #, email and I think license plate number.
Overall this park is safe and at least has a small river that runs by it. It’s not a very glamorous park, nor does it have much to offer or do. But I got a good nights sleep the 2 nights I was there.

The kids fished in the river, and there was a very large grassy area for them to play on. There was some road noise, and cars drove WAY too fast along the park road. We tried to email city hall to ask for a permit, but no one responded within the 4 days advance notice we gave, and none of the campers around us had any idea how to get a permit either. Eventually ( a week later) someone emailed back, but obviously by then we were gone. Felt very safe, and a great place to visit corpus cristi along our journey east. ATT service was good.

Four stars for what it is, a very nice rest area, very close to Corpus Christi.
If you are the type who would never stay in a rest area overnight, this place is not for you - road noise is pretty bad. But for the rest of us, it's a great find - right on the river, not crowded, lots of space to walk the dog, and the price is right.
The park seemed safe to us. It is well used for fishing (google alligator gar) but unlike a few of the other reviewers, we didn't get any kind of uncomfortable vibe and no noise at night except for road noise. We stayed mid-week.
After visiting the website, 3 phone calls, 3 emails and a visit from Officer Friendly, we FINALLY managed to provide all the info that they wanted for a permit. Here you have it.
*Name and drivers license number of permit holder and total number of guests
*Address
*Phone number
*Email
*What days do you want to stay?
*License plates and Make/Model/Color of all vehicles
They will hunt you down (in a very nice and professional way) until you give them all this info. You can call City Hall 361 826 3464 or email JoseR3 at CCTexas DOT COM.
Three day limit but Officer Friendly said they would offer an extension for another three days.
Verizon 40 down, 14 up. ATT was even faster.

Free sites on the Nueces River just north of Corpus Christi. Kinda trashy but could be worse for what is a glorified rest area. Port-a-potties on site. Lots of trash cans (two per site!). Corpus Christi P&R officers issued us a permit on site without a problem. Three days and can extend three more days. Amazing birds fishing the river!
