I would give this place 3.5 stars, but rounded up because the staff are so nice. I did not think the roads were bad coming in. We arrived opening weekend and stayed in D7. The gravel pad was level. This is an old local campground filled many locals. Many people leave their rig here for summer camping. Everyone is really nice which is good because the tree cover between spots was thin so you don’t have any privacy.I was heading west and only stopping for one night. If had kids with me they could stay busy in the pool, playground, scheduled camp activities and I like I could have rented a canoe or kayak. Bathrooms and showers were fine. The WiFi was solid the whole time.

The best thing about this park is that it's quiet. Advertised as streaming 4K wifi, no disclaimer as to cost. Its $10 per day, no thanks. Many sites are permanent residents in fixed trailers (its like a trailer park) that only come in on weekends, not sure it that's good or bad. There are 5 sites not permanently occupied in the 300s loop. Some of the permanents only come on weekends. Most permanent residents are older.
Our site was fairly level with nice pea gravel. Large site, about 100 feet long. 50 amp electric and water worked well. Laundry room on site. We can almost see the lake from our site, if you look real close through the trees.
The pool was closed while we were here. Very quiet, few kids in area, though it was after school started and during the week. For rustic, home cooking try out Campbell's restaurant just up the road, homemade pies.
2-3 bars of good, usable AT&T service, 5 HDTV channels (NBC, ABC, CBS and local channels).

Lots of state run sites in the park, however only private campgrounds have hook ups. The price difference for having electric and water is $44 vs $27. I darted in and out of both while on my week here. Great landing spot to rest before driving in the park. There are no dispersed or free camp sites in the park.
If/when I revist the park this will be my plan. Stay here first night then Little Wolf in Tupper Lake then Deer River south of Malone, NY then Lake Placid and exit park to Gloversville, NY.
Verizon gets 2 bars 4G and worked well with no booster or antenna.
