Wind whipped up in the afternoons so very breezy from noon until after dark. Town was close by for necessities. Cell service okay. Only downside was some campers ran generators 24/7. Noise was challenging but if you get there during early part of week you might just have the place all to yourself. We paid $8 per night and had access to water and restrooms/showers at park locations.

Camp host--Scott was very knowledgeable, and helpful.

Campground well maintained and set up. Sure 12 offers good privacy due to large bushes on both sides. Asphalt parking pad, fire pit, table, shade structure. COVID restrictions in effect: open to NM residents ONLY, online reservations required (adds $4 per day reservation fee).

I camped in site 4, which was part black top and part dirt. Unfortunately, it was right next to the camp host, who saw fit to light up his site at night like a Christmas tree.
Verizon 4G was weak but usable, with 2 bars, -107 dB, 4 Mbps down and 0.2 to 0.6 up.
The dump station was OK, except for a pothole right under where one's sewer outlet would be parked, which was filled with nasty brown liquid.
The water level in the lake was very low, and driving over the sand was risky, even with 4WD. I had hoped to visit Spaceport America, but it turned out to be just a hole in the desert that the State of New Mexico pours money into. The visitor center was nothing but a room in the back of the town visitor center, with posters and a toy spaceship. The only way to get to the spaceport was via a $50 bus tour from town, which I was told would take you to look at empty hangars and empty buildings. The town had a good little museum of local life and history, but there was nothing more in the area.

We stayed at this park for 4 nights in early April 2018 in Desert Cove site 6. The park is located on the Elephant Butte Reservoir near the town of Truth or Consequences, an interesting artsy town. It is clean and well kept, quiet, and has sites to reserve or first come/first serve. There are trails but we did not hike any. Our site had 50 amp, water and a covered picnic table. Dump station was nearby as was the comfort station. Staff was pleasant. Our site felt private and looked out over a wilderness area. Plenty of quail to watch!

“OHV/ATV Parking Not Allowed”
noted 4/20/2023
We called this state park asking if we could unload our ATV from our toy hauler if we stay there. We told her we would not be riding it … just parking it. She said unloading it is not allowed. We don’t have a walled garage, so it sits in our living room. That changed our plans to stay there. Just want others hauling ATVs/OHVs to be aware of this rule.
