That's a great place to visit Mesa Verde! Just 5mn driving from the Visitor Center. The camprground have designated sites, we arrived at 6:00 and it was ok. Sites are big enough to have privacy. You have an amazing view one the Mesa Verde Mountain. On floor, it's a kind of white slate, there is a lot of wood to make a fire, and you can have shade. A lot of mosquitos, that's anywhere the same thing.
Definitly a good place to visit Mesa Verde, which was one of my favorite National Park!

Nice spot close to Cortez and Mesa Verde Nat’l Park.
Spots are numbered and spaced out okay. We could see our neighbors at number 3.
We were at campsite number 2. A bit small but level ground with big juniper trees. Some good views here and there. Nice sunset🌄.

I pulled into the first spot I found and then walked the rest of the road. There were a couple of other decent locations and I moved to a well used spot between the 'official' site numbers. I didn't have any issues, but some of the sites clearly showed signs of partying and drug use, so that's why it felt a little sketchy. Those sites were open, but I chose not to use them. I also found the cell coverage is much better the further you go in and up on the road. Did not need my booster.

We have mixed feelings about this site.
Pros:
- Absolutely incredible views
- Quiet
- 5 minute drive to Mesa Verde Visitor Center
- Larger spots (toward the end of the road)
Cons:
- Rough road and some log hanging branches (our wifi booster got snagged of by a limb - but we found it)
- Some people are there permanently (there was someone further back in the site, off the actual camping area that had a tent, outdoor couch, tv, etc. We never saw them, but it looked permanent and gave us a weird vibe).
- Not a ton of spots, so if you get to the end and there are no spots it could be difficult to turn around. Definitely scout with a separate vehicle if you tow!
All in all. We loved it because of the location, the reception, and the views. We never felt unsafe while we were there, and everyone we did interact with was super nice. Overall it was an okay free camping spot, and we would definitely stay there again. Just important to know the pro's and con's of this spot.

We stayed here in a 33.5' travel trailer. The road is not built for rigs this size. There is a turn around at the end, but I have no idea how small a towable would have to be to make it around the tree in the middle of the turn around. My wife and I ended up having to back up down the road in the dark for about 1/2 mile on a narrow road with trees, rocks, and stumps littered along the road to get to a spot.
Once finding a spot the site was large enough, but there are only a couple spots big enough. I definitely recommend dropping your trailer (though there's not a good place to do it right there) and scouting ahead to make sure you'll fit somewhere. Some sites are level enough to level with blocks, others I can't imagine even trying. Lots of tent campers.
Downsides:
Lots of coyotes. Watch your dogs.
Small spots in general. Or big spots that aren't capable of having a larger trailer actually pull in because of things like tree stumps near the entrance of the site.
Narrow road, very sharp rocks everywhere.
Pluses:
Absolutely beautiful. The mesas are gorgeous and can be seen from some sites.
Not a lot of flies/yellow jackets like some boon docking spots.
Relatively quiet and private sites. Plenty of space between you and other campers.
Very close to Mesa Verde National Park, close enough to a Walmart for supplies.
All-in-all we'd stay here again with a smaller trailer, but this place is mostly for tent campers and smaller RVs.
Verizon internet didn't work without cell booster, but calls did. AT&T worked OK.

This was our first time really boondocking on BLM land! After reading previous reviews, we decided to take our chances with pulling our 30' Airstream trailer into this place.
It was conveniently located, about a mile from Mesa Verde Visitor Center and close to two different towns; Mancos to the east and Cortez to the west.
From the main highway, there's a small sign that says MC RD 34. Turn in there and about 1/2 a mile down, the entrance to the campsite is marked with a red fire hydrant and "No Outlet" sign. The dirt road is very rutted with potholes, but you can make it in going very slowly. On a rainy day though, it would be advisable to use 4wd.
There are 12 marked and cleared spots available for camping. Spots 1-8 are suitable for tent camping and small rigs (like a van at most, or tear drop camper). Spots 9-12 have enough space for bigger rigs, but only spots 11 and 12 can handle a 30' trailer like our Airstream. A 30' trailer would be the max length though because we barely squeezed in... There is a very small, very tight turnaround at the end of the road but I wouldn't recommend using it. Our F-250 truck by itself would barely make that turn. Good thing we managed to squeeze into space 11 without going down to the turnaround because we would've gotten stuck!
Initially, we tried to pull through into site 11 from site 10, but halfway in, we realized it was a bad idea! There's not a lot of clearance on the sides because of trees and bushes, but at that point we were too far in to be able to easily back out onto the main road again... I had to hold back some branches to try and minimize scratching on the trailer and Bach eventually managed to maneuver far enough into site 11, but that was NOT fun... Only sites 11 and 12 open in the right direction for you to be able to back into the spots without having to turn around at the end and come back the other way.
Site 11 was pretty level and provided a lot of privacy. The front door opened up to a small clearing where you could set up a table and chairs. Campfires were prohibited however.
It was very private here, as all the marked camping sites were well spaced from each other with a lot of trees in-between. There's a limit of 14 consecutive days of camping. While there's no camphost on the premises, we did see a cop car roll through at one point, and also a ranger a different day; most likely to just keep an eye on things and keep track of how long people are staying at the campsite. It's close to the highway however, so you'll hear traffic noises at night, but not too bad.
Cell signal is terrible in the area... We have Verizon for our personal phones, an AT&T hotspot, and T-Mobile on an Android phone. Verizon gave us 2 bars but with unuseable speeds, the AT&T hotspot gave us a few bars with barely useable speeds (with an antenna and booster), and T-Mobile was similar to Verizon. Bach went into Mancos to work at a coffee shop and use their Wi-Fi for one day and then decided to just tough it out at the campsite for the rest of the week using the hotspot. If you work remotely and are staying at this campsite, or in the area, Mancos is a very small town with not a lot of coffee shop options to work out of. They do have a small library, but we didn't go in there to try out there Wi-Fi. Cortez on the other hand, is larger, also with a library and more options for finding a place with Wi-Fi. Mancos is a cute little town though, and worth exploring!
