Thing is, there is just so much good stuff in this area when it comes to free national forest camping, it's hard to rate all of these spots fairly on a 5 star system. :P

Even on the 4th of July weekend, this place was not overly packed. People were spread out, affording one another the elbow room I have come to admire in what percentage of the human race's blood still thrives on a modicum of camp decorum.

If there's a downside to this spot, it's that it's right on the highway, which is gorgeous by the it all the way to Durango if you didn't come from that if you don't drive relatively far back in, and you brought your guitar, you'll be jamming to the noodling of everything from big rigs to 98% of the world's Toyota 4runner inventory well into the night.

It's such a beautiful area, it's hard to go wrong around here. I pulled in and immediately found a nice spot with a fire ring and a nice view. Looks like you can go back pretty far in if your vehicle can handle the rough road. I was here during the week and I could see a few other vehicles around, but it still felt like I had the peace and quiet I wanted. Depending on where you camp, you'll probably hear the cars going down the highway. Not a problem for me since they were obscured from view.
