As of the 7 of Dec all the trash and stuff have been cleaned up and all the homeless have been removed. And as of December 18, 2020 this place will be closed for renovations and upgrades till sometime in January. And become a fee area. Will keep you posted.

As another user mentioned, this place has been completely trashed by vagabonds who seem to be living here full time. The pit toilet is surrounded by piles of trash - some in bags, some loose. As another user mentioned, this place has been completely trashed by vagabonds who seem to be living here full time. The pit toilet is surrounded by piles of trash - some in bags, some loose. The inside is unspeakable, and every surface is covered in human waste. I took one look at it and decided I can hold it until tomorrow. There are multiple dogs with collars running loose. One site had a vehicle half deconstructed. I almost wish I hadn’t found an available spot here (the last), and had just kept driving - I doubt I’ll be able to sleep, because I’m pretty sure I’ll be up all night waiting for one of the tweakers to knock on my window.

Stayed here to visit the local waterfalls. The waterfalls where amazing. But the campsites at Steiner Flat are badddd....There was only one site left when I arrived around noon and it was full of trash. It looks like most of the people live here. There was a truck taken apart with its engine on the ground. A lot of yelling from my neig... more
Stayed here to visit the local waterfalls. The waterfalls where amazing. But the campsites at Steiner Flat are badddd....There was only one site left when I arrived around noon and it was full of trash. It looks like most of the people live here. There was a truck taken apart with its engine on the ground. A lot of yelling from my neighboring campers, they were arguing so much that there kid ran away. They also ran their generator all night. There is trash everywhere!! Trash at every site and even in the river nearby. I found sponges and clothes stuck in the rivers bed. It’s sad because it’s a great location close to the town of Redding to get water and food. It’s also close to the Whiskeytown falls. But I wouldn’t advise for anyone to stay here. I am surprised it hasn’t been shut down. Easily the worst campsite I’ve ever been to. I’m appalled at how people treat free land.

Heading from Lassen to Redwoods we stopped here for the night after service and stocking up in Redding. Nice and quiet and free of charge

Getting to the campground was fairly easy. Came on Labor Day weekend so unfortunately the river spots were taken. Camped back in first part of the loop. 33' Class C was tight. Good Verizon and no AT&T. Only downsides were smoke from nearby fires and the drug addict couple that came in at midnight and proceeded to argue until 7am. Overa... more
