Sunday night stay, 7/29/18. Extra $9 for our daily recreation passport fee.
Being a primitive campground "in the sticks", we were surprised to find it over half full when we arrived Sunday evening. Someone had just vacated, so we were lucky to score site 16 right on the river. The road into the campground has sites on either side, the left-side sites being on the river. Some are quite spacious, and most have vegetation in between. Most are level. Sites have a large picnic table, fire ring (no grate), and large rocks to limit where you park (all back-in type).
Cleanliness... well, sites weren't bad, but vault toilets were nasty. There were 3 sets in the campground, 2 of which were bad, the set near the check-in station (handicapped accessible) was not as bad. TP was gone in all, not even an empty roll. There is no camp host for any sort of maintenance; who knows how often the DNR people clean them. Also there are 2 hand-pump water pumps in the campground, and a dumpster for trash.
Mosquitoes weren't too bad, but we did burn mosquito coils. There were a variety of birds to enjoy. Unfortunately the hiking trails were too overgrown to explore. In the campsite next to us, a couple played mandolin & accordion in the evening - a lovely treat!
