We stayed here at the suggestion of friends we were visiting in Birmingham. We had originally reserved a local RV park, but I am so glad we stayed here instead. We were in site A30 which is surrounded by trees. Though we had a somewhat close neighbor on one side, the other was all woods.
Our site was level from side to side, an only sloped down from back to front just a bit. Backing in was quite easy. The only complaint about our site is the site has a lot of poison ivy, so do be aware when walking around.
While we didn’t take advantage of everything there is to do here, there are a ton of choices - anything from archery to golf to horseback riding. Bike lanes run throughout the park, and there is a BMX track as well.
Next visit will definitely be longer than two nights. This park is a gem barely outside the city.

This was our 2nd time in the campground and we love it here. Especially during the warmer months, having a lake & beach just for the campground was fantastic. We could walk/bike down to the lake and spend hours there. We launched our paddleboard and enjoyed the water all day. And there is so much more to the park - the trails, nature center, interactive center, and the main beach at double oak lake. We were sad to hear that the demonstration farm closed, but we still enjoyed every moment.

Nicely wooded sites. Great Lake. Very quiet. Many cigaret buts on the ground.

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in site #A6, an E/W, BI site for $34 including resort fees and taxes (state/county/city lodging taxes…) The roads and sites were asphalt. The road coming in the back entrance has a huge hill to go up and over with some curves. Going in the main gate would have been a much flatter approach and easier on the gas/brakes. I didn’t have any other navigation issues. The site was pretty flat, I needed one board to get level. The site is in the less densely populated side of the campground (A Loop) with more tent sites. There seemed to be less traffic and it was probably quieter as well since sites were more spacious. It was easy to back into A6 and it was plenty long for the rig and truck. There is a nice big wooded area and stream behind the site. My cats enjoyed exploring that. The bathhouse wasn’t in great shape so I didn’t use it. Lots of trees and shade on the A loop. B loop has more open sites but there are some with shade. I did hear trains from time to time but otherwise it was very quiet. Connectivity – 2 bars LTE with Verizon, 7.8 mbps download speed (I was able to stream), no wifi and a handful of OTA stations. The laundry is in the B loop – 4 washers and 3 dryers. $1.50/W. NOTE: you may see a big propane tank and the campground entrance, but they no longer fill tanks. They do have a 20# tank exchange kiosk. There’s a really nice shopping area (The Summit) not far away. I liked this site and the park. Other sites I would consider include: A loop – 23, B Loop – 34, 48, 50, 53, 59. The park has all sorts of activities including hiking, biking, kayaking, water ski jumps, and golf so it could keep a family engaged for a long period. I would definitely come back.

This state park was incredible. It was noisy in loop B. We drove through loop A and it was definitely quieter. But the state park was fun. The hiking is phenomenal and the activities are wonderful. An archery range, golfing, hiking, and kayaking. It’s fun and lots of room.

There is so much to do in this park! Biking, hiking, swimming, there is a interactive center and also a petting zoo type place. Geocaching, fishing, parks, volleyball, basketball. We have plenty of things to occupy our time!
Also- Walmart is super close (but you wouldn’t be able to tell!) in case you forgot something at home.
BUY THE MAP. It’s only a buck but it’s SO useful!
I would DEFINITELY come back!

Park staff were very responsive when we had an issue with our first site. The power post was not grounded. We moved sites and all was well. Sites were not completely level but not bad. We didn’t take advantage of everything the park offered as we wanted to see Birmingham and just stayed 2 days. We would stay again.

Cell service is excellent. We have AT&T and I was a bit hesitant based on previous reviews but a cell tower must have gone up since then because we are getting full service.
The asphalt pad is a bit narrow but sufficient for our 20' travel trailer and it is level (space a11). The orientation of the pad is nice, we're not looking into someone else's windows and there is a small ravine between us and the space next to us on the door side where our windows are. So far it's been a nice place to stay.

We stopped for 1 night as we traveled home. Lovely park and friendly staff. However, showers were dated and dirty
Sites along the "A" loop are plenty spaced apart, each with a nice picnic and fire area down a hill. Site A04 is on an incline (thus the reason for the downhill picnic area). Beautiful area
