The straw that broke the camel’s back for KOA membership. This was a shameful excuse for KOA. The campground needs some much needed maintenance. Laundry only had 2 washing machines, no dryers. Dog park was pathetic. Many full time residents with the back half of the property unkempt. Suggest stay 1 night only if a necessity.

Tips - If you can avoid coming over 50W out of Monarch to Blue Mesa, do so. There's hellacious single-lane (dirt) road construction with width restrictions (10') for ~ 20 miles coming into Montrose; you would be better off coming in I-70W from Denver. Check CODOT.gov for latest news. Arrive earlier or later to avoid the congestion at check-in. Get your fuel/DEF early, the prices climb through the mountains.
Favorite - Close to BCGNP and Montrose.
Negatives - Site #16 was a difficult approach, narrow, and short for our 65' setup; egress was difficult as well. Dog park left something to be desired.

The staff, unlike most KOAs that we have stayed at was blunt into the point, professional, but not particularly enthusiastic or helpful.
Sites are gravel and relatively small.
Showers were very very clean. Among the best of the KOA. Wi-Fi service was good. Cell service was good. Laundry Facilities were adequate but two of the machines were out of order.
If you're looking for a layover or a convenient location to Black canyon of the Gunnison, this is good. But nothing special besides that.

“Downtown" KOAs are sometimes little more than parking lots with hookups. Not so with this campground: it has a fair amount of trees and the space between sites is decent if not roomy. The sites in the front are a bit tighter but have the taller trees that provide shade for the RVs. In the back of the campground, the sites are separated by grassy islands, so there’s more space, but most of the trees are shorter. Many of these sites are occupied by seasonal or full-time residents: we were probably placed in that area because we were staying for two weeks.
The campground has the typical KOA amenities - propane refills, camp store, laundry room, a playground, and a pool - but it also has a hot tub, a covered communal patio with grills, and recycling bins (paper, cans, and plastic). The fenced dog park was pretty small and didn’t get much use. Most of us walked our dogs on the leashed dog walk adjacent to a small canal running along the length of the campground: convenient except for the mosquitoes.
In terms of cell service, I was getting 15Mbps down and 8Mbps up with my Verizon Jetpack hotspot with MIMO antenna: good enough to stream TV although with pauses and periods of low quality, particularly in the evenings. My AT&T phone (which I didn’t actively use for data) got 63Mbps down and 12Mbps up.
The campground is only a few block from the center of town: you could walk to several bars and restaurants. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is only 20 minutes away via US-50.
We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

Montrose/Black Canyon KOA is a great base camp for seeing the Canyon, meandering along the Million Dollar Highway, or making a trip to Telluride. This park is clearly well maintained and manicured. The sites and roads are all gravel and very easy to maneuver even with a big rig. Each site is well spaced from the next with grass, curbs, and shade trees. Most of the spaces are long pull-throughs, but even the back in sites appeared to be plenty long for rigs of 40 or more feet. All of the utilities were in great working order and conveniently placed. There were amenities such as laundry, playground, swimming pool, dog walk, and free cable tv, and while not free the staff picked up an empty propane tank and returned it to our site filled for a most reasonable fee. There are a couple of rows for those who are staying long term, but those are at the back of the park and the rigs were well kept and sites nice and tidy. This campground is just enough away from the main roads to be nice and quiet. We would certainly stay here again.

We stayed in spot 18 which is the first pull-through spot as you enter the campground. That meant we got some headlights and a bit of noise in the evening but nothing too crazy.
The campground is one of the closest campgrounds to the national park but it's still a bit of a drive up to the visitor center. We were a bit late coming back down in the morning and requested a late checkout but our spot was already reserved. They let us park in the overflow parking behind the office so we came back and moved it before heading back into the national park.
We walked over to the basketball court and shot some hoops and walked around the campground. It seems like about half the campground is permanent (or long-term) residents but everything is tidy and the trees offer some nice shade.

So, it's convenient to many places in town and Black Canyon of Gunnison NP. The sites were a little snug for my 32TT but definitely not the worst I've seen. Thats if your staying in the front of the park. Stay away from the back of the park! Full timers slums... and the dog run... well... filled with trash. The restrooms and shower houses were nice, but the laundry room was something to be desired (do your laundry before you get here). The full hook ups were in an easy to get to place and we did have a decent picnic table, but... just not our cup of tea!

Tent sites are outside of the campground and not really nice. Unfenced, everybody can pass by, so somebody stole our folding table and a new carpet, no refund or discount by the owner (worth 100 Dollar!!!)! Pool closed, even it was really hot during the day. Bathroom clean and RV Sites really nice.

We are not fans of RV parks but this one was fine. But that is mainly because many sites were not occupied. We had a corner lot which we like.
Bathrooms were immaculate, they were just remodeled.
Owners were friendly.

“Friendly Staff/clean Park”
noted 6/25/2023
While we didn’t camp here; we did use it to fill and dump our tanks. $15 for both. Reasonable, convenient, and polite staff. Site 46 where we filled, etc was level, had patchy grass and a picnic table. The park had a nice looking pool, laundry facility and showers.
