I got in around 7pm and there were only 2 RVs, and and 3 trucks with people out on their dirt bikes. I was tent camping and had a hard time finding a flat spot, but I eventually settled on a spot at the end of the parking lot behind a bush. It was great until after 8:30/9pm when I was starting to fall asleep that a bunch of people started rolling in and the dirt bike guys came in and were being loud. Since it wasn’t so late, I let it slide! But the wind was pretty gusty so it was making my tent rustle. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep much, but if you had an RV it would be perfect!! I also had 5 bars of 5G, so that was a perk!!

We camped here in our 40' motorhome in September 2021. The proximity to Montrose is great. The road up the mountain is great to walk up. It's pretty quiet overnight. I was hesitant staying here because it was during memorial day weekend and I figured it would be very packed but when I arrive Thursday evening, there were only two other campers there. By the end of the night, I believe they were total of five of us. Great phone service and super close to town. The vault toilets were clean but other than that, no amenities. It’s not much of a destination camping spot but does well for another two. The sites are side-by-side Pullins which I believe they were about 10, maybe 15 of them. Could be very loud when there are multiple campers.

The location is great for Montrose and Black Canyon NP.
The sites are very unlevel front to back but sideways is fine.
On the weekends alot of locals come to ride off-road vehicles which is what the place is meant for.
A good bet for Van people would be to camp on the dirt to the left of the parking area for more privacy and a more level site.

Close to Montrose
Free
4 bars LTE verizon
Good for a night
Maybe if one can get to the top of the hill, it’s good for more than a night’s stopover
I think it will be very noisy on weekends with OHVs

We needed a place to stay for the night on our way to a longer destination and we found the perfect place. I wish we could have stayed longer, even though it is toasty outside. Above the city, with some wind and clouds, dirt bikes, atv, utv, but no other campers, this was a wonderful place to stay. Big rig friendly, dry camping at its finest, with a vault toilet. Excellent cell and internet service! First time in a long time, I thought I was in heaven. There is a cute downtown area to visit, historic looking, plus a jumping point to see the Gunnison area. Plus, if you need to do laundry (we do not have machines), go to Southside Laundry. Lots of machines, all working, clean, free WIFI, cheap, snacks and if you plan to stay longer in Montrose and need mail, this laundromat has mailboxes you can rent for a nominal fee.
You can stay 6 nights/7 days.
Recommend this place if you need an overnight or want to stay to explore Montrose and beyond!

We were the only car or camper in the park. No hookups, windy at night, dusty. Essentially a gravel parking lot with a toilet hut. Simple and we enjoyed being so close to montrose and Black Canyon. It was great having the whole place to ourselves.

“Will do in a pinch or great for off roading motorcycles and ATvs”

Barren and dry. Sites are fairly narrow but long enough for 38ft rig. Open, no shade, windy. Many off road trails for motorcycles. Easy to get to and roads are well maintained. No cost.

Great spot with 7 day max stay. Easy incline to get a big rig up to, no problems. Small amount of bumpy dirt road just as the pavement ends, but it’s a very short section. Great cell signal on Verizon as you’re almost next to the tower. 8 min drive to the center of Montrose.
