Our site, #28 was situated right on the water. If we had Kayaks we would have been able to put them in right from our site. (Other nice sites were 27, 36, and 40. ) We had morning coffee and evening cocktails while watching the river and wildlife around. No ants that we could see as many people warned about. Showers were OK, warm enough but not as hot as I like. Bathrooms were older but clean. Friendly people!

Gunter Hill is a gem of a campground! Sites are spacious, long, and paved with full hookups. We were in site 28 which was on the lake. The bathrooms & showers are older but adequate. Wished we could have stayed more than one night.

Nice to come out of snow in Pennsylvania to 60 degrees just before New Years.
Lake, Spanish Moss, good spacing between rigs and did I say warm?
BBQ grill and fire ring on our spot.

This is one of the best campgrounds we have stayed at for site size. It was chilly and damp the three days we spent there, so didn't get to experience the trails or local sites. We were in Catona loop, the other loop, Antioch, is closed. We have to also mention the mosquitoes - as soon as its dusk they were out in force. Every time the RV door was opened we had some come in and the fly-swatter came in handy. Spread ant granules around our tires and hose just to be sure we didn't get any visitors. The directions to the park recommend Rt. 80 to 7 (Cantalou Rd) to Booth Rd. We took that going in but later checked out what another reviewer suggested: Rt 80 to Rt 17 (Mitchell Young Rd) to Old Selma Rd to Booth Rd. This was definitely a better road - wider - trees were trimmed - very little traffic.

Montgomery, AL – Gunter Hill COE Park. 561 Booth Rd. 334-269-1053. We love COE parks. The campground is situated on Catoma Creek in a forest of hickory and pine and has 142 sites in several loops. The campground is about 10 miles west of Montgomery; there is access to fishing, boating, and hiking. Sites 1-75 are newer sites and have concrete pads and sewer. Amenities at the campground include restrooms, shower, water, a dump station and laundry facilities. A picnic shelter is available for parties and groups to reserve. We were in site #15 which has FHUs, a really long concrete, level site pad with a large gravel area for the picnic table, grill, fire ring, and lantern stand. In the section we were located, there was large spacing between each site, which we really appreciate. Lots of wooded areas are here as well. We didn’t bother to set up our portable satellite as we were able to get several OTA channels. Our Verizon Mifi worked well and both ATT and Verizon cell phones worked well too. There is a playground not too far away from our area and also restrooms but we didn’t use them. We would definitely return here.

Stayed here thur and fri of the labor day weekend. I got completely filled up. There are 2 campsite loops. Antioch is the older loop with gravel pads, not especially level. The picnic table at my site was extremely weathered with a lot of black yuk. The area would have been quiet except for one rude camper who felt obligated to compel everyone to listen to their music. All sites in the antioch loop are spacious, have water and electric, and cost $18.
The Catoma loop has all concrete pads and appeared to be level.
There dont seem to be any hiking trails but walking the paved road is still pleasant as it is a treed area. Dont expect to be able to walk along the river. Catoma sites are all $26.
The facility honors America the Beautiful and other interagency passes, so there is a 50% discount for holders of those passes.

The only negative was the ant problem we suffered. Part of it was our own fault for not taking adequate precautions when we arrived. On the afternoon of the second day we realized our mistake too late. Don’t be like us. Lay down the suppressant early and avoid the headache.
