Not recommended for boondocking beginners like me.

Great spot, had 4 bars of Verizon LTE, and plenty of open sky for Starlink. Roads are in good condition, and had no issue towing our 23 ft travel trailer. Turn comes up fast off 160, best advice would be to come from the west and make the right hand turn onto Silver Hills Rd. Place does get busy, and rigs/cars are driving around look for spots at all hours of the night. Only issue was we woke up back to back nights with people set up barely 20 ft away from us, so not much for camping etiquette. Otherwise we would def come back if I’m the area again.

I got kicked out because I “live” in my van. Just parked there to sleep and enjoy the area and BLM officer said I had to leave. I was there less than 2 weeks. They seem to profile vehicles and leave newer looking vans and RVs alone. It’s a real shame because it’s a great spot to sleep and enjoy the desert.

Lookouts over rolling hills and scrub brush type area. Nice and quiet away from the craziness of Durango but close enough to engage in activities there. (10 miles)
Google directions are a bit off. Entrance is Basically on south side of highway 160 at mile marker 97. There is signage at entrance.
It is a gas well area that is shared use.
Several spots along three gravel roads.
After entrance stay straight on main feeder road as first left goes to gas well close to highway and dead ends. (Highway noise)
A couple sites along main road.
Then road splits, stay to right preferably. (Left climbs a slight hill but only has one site)
Right continues on to two off-road camping areas. (Difficult for towed vehicles due to ditch crossing)
There are several sites along the gravel road or make your own along the road if you can’t go through the ditches. There are turn arounds on any of the three gravel roads.

You cannot camp next to the oil rigs as there is gates blocking them which limited the camping area. Theres plenty for Vans or car campers but my Class A would have bottomed out on the side roads.

I drove to the end of the roads and then went back Hwy. 160 three or four miles to Sauls Creek dispersed camping. Just two bars on Verizon but apparently a strong two bars since I'm able to stream video and still have decent computing speed. Forest, meadows, lots and lots I of spaces.

I did have visiting neighbors (free roaming cows with calves one calf got curious can came up to my van window sniffin around you have the lil town of Durango about 10/12 miles away with all the aminities you need, the Ranger came by and gave me some paperwork on the rules of the area (14 day limit) and then have to move 30 miles away but was very nice had one neighbor my last 2 days that parked about 20 ft behind me (rude) and would let his dog run off leash to go potty and then he would yell for him to come back mutiple times at 6:30 am hope he reads this review. Other than that I would go out of my way to stay there if I'm ever in that area again.

Thanks to RV Nomad for posting the correct coordinates in the review. We first used the ones posted for the site and ended up driving over 3 miles up a dirt road that dead-ended at someone's house. Turning around was difficult. We were so frustrated almost gave up but when we saw the above coordinates were only 3 miles away we gave it a try. The coordinates put you in the middle of the main road - the dispersed camping area is the dirt road on the right (coming from Durango). The road is in good shape We took the first spot as you come in and were happy with the site - fairly level. Traffic noise was not too bad and probably would have been less if we kept going down the road looking for a different site. But we did not want to encounter any more problems so took the first site. Easy access to Durango so we are pleased. Would definitely come again and use the correct coordinates!!!! Good cell coverage and even some TV channels on the antenna!
