Unfortunately the campsite itself was closed. Sign on the gate said it’s open in April. But we parked our van by the viewpoints and didn’t have any problems. I wouldn’t recommend tent camping. It might not be so scenic in the summer but it was very pretty mid-February. There are plenty of hole toilets to use but no trash cans. No cell service for T-Mobile or Atnt, not sure about Verizon. The drive up is completely paved and the site itself is well kept gravel. Overall great experience!

I read about the ticks - we did not have a dog or get any on us. This is a horse camp and the flies have heard about it. I have an instant pop up bug shelter that paid for itself in minutes. I read about the ticks - we did not have a dog or get any on us. This is a horse camp and the flies have heard about it. I have an instant pop up bug shelter that paid for itself in minutes. We were able to enjoy the story book views as the sun went down. Coyotes and I am pretty sure a bull elk joined in to serenade us. This is like a mile off of 20 on 16 so perfect for either road - we were taking 20 over the lake to the 5. This place is huge (we didn't bother unhooking the toad) and the other campers were all spread out. There is a stream you can camp near, we just stuck to the middle because I am slightly paranoid in these BLM places. Saw a "blm resident" but no one approached and we really enjoyed out overnight. Plan for the bugs (which disappear at dusk) and I can highly recommend this free spot. Zero coverage with Tmobile, everyone needs to unplug right ? Camp closes 3rd week of November.

Beautiful, quiet, serene… Until your dogs walk outside and get covered in ticks! I left this site a week ago and have spent every day and every night picking ticks out of my dogs. Never again.

This is an excellent, off the beaten path location. It does have a lot of bugs including bees, wasps, and flies, but nothing a screen can't keep out. It gets nice and warm during the day as well since the hills surrounding this space block most of the wind. Super quiet, nice place to boondock.

So the place is open and accessible. However the locals bring their horses there to play. Uninviting and rude old local people.

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect weekend! The campground was clean and mowed, the trails were in excellent shape and the river was still running for fresh water for the horses! Wish it could stay like this year round!
