They have a toilet and designated camp sites. They have benches and fire pits (no use of fire pits right now it’s illegal and dangerous. Only one road out and hills are all dry weeds)
Has bear safe trash cans.
Cons:
10 mile drive in on a road you can’t go more than 10 mph on. It takes an hour. It’s rough.
No cell service for emergencies. Could see this being dangerous for solo travelers.
Gun shot shells everywhere. Left all over the tables.
Scenery isn’t that great although view of stars at night was beautiful.
Camp sites very rocky and can be hard to hammer in a tent.
Overall I probably wouldn’t go back bc of the drive in and the combo of no cell service. Too risky. Loved the peacefulness though.

We spend three days here shooting our pellet guns, mountain biking, fishing, and off roading. The site has six established areas - some with tables some without. Each site can easily accommodate 2 tents, the sites at the end probably 4 tents. 9 of us camped here with four vehicles in three sites. There is no water so make sure to bring in plenty to drink as well as a LOT of water to use to completely extinguished your campfire. There is cell service and LTE about a mile up the road on Verizon. I used the Weboost RV Reach edition extender and it had absolutely no effect on the quality of my service. I arrived early Friday morning to ensure we had a spot. If you don't secure a spot, the campsite about a mile down the road (Indian Valley Reservoir) has plenty of inexpensive ($15/night) campsites with running water.
I would love to come back here with the family to explore all the trails, lake, and surrounding area.

It’s a long (7 mile) dirt road with ruts and washboard. There are dozen sites that might have water and electric in peak season. It did not work for our stay. There are showers and toilets.

I've been coming here regularly for over 20 years. My last visit was the end of 6/19. It was terrible to see the burned up western shore burned up by the ranch fire -started by some fool near Potter Valley who decided to do some outdoor welding in the middle of summer! All the awesome huge Blue Oaks I've loved over the years destroyed. Such a waste. They will never be replaced. Shame on you, who ever the hell you are...
I've almost always boat camped. Stayed just a few times at Blue Oaks campground and at the campground near the dam. Blue Oaks (about a mile from the lake) is a small, but much nicer campground, and is more is primitive. When boat camping, you can always find a nice little isolated rocky beach with a little shade (much less now) from a cottonwood or willow. Fishing is great when the water level is high. I caught many bass, green sunfish, and catfish on this last trip. Nothing big this time, but I've caught a lot of big fish in the past. The carp were thick, and I think next time I will do some carp fishing, and try out one of the many carp recipes I've researched on the the net.
Too many people trash this place. We found an old camp on the lake shore where some people left all manner of plastic, paper, glass, and metal garbage. Every stretch of lakeshore there has various trash strewn about. We do are best to pick up. I wish people had more respect. Gun nuts and off road vehicle enthusiasts abound out there (mostly on the northern end of the lake), but when the water level is high, it's easy to maintain distance from them. The lake was built to supply water to farms in the valley, so the lake is subject to severe drawdowns later in the summer. Fishing sucks then, but it's fun to wander around the dry lake bed. I've found many a good lure snagged on logs and dead trees. Snags in this lake are impossible to avoid even with weedless rigs.
My wife thinks I'm crazy for loving this place, but I do. It has its own unique beauty. It's remote, undeveloped, a bit wild, and often has great fishing for a variety of species. I've even caught salmon in this lake. Bring your small boat and make your own camp, and do pack out your trash.

I read the review on February 18th and thought I would go stay here for a few days from March 8 - March 10. I read signs about this campground being closed while driving the dirt road also about warning about no turn arounds. So, I dropped my little trailer at Blue Oak Campground and drove my Subaru up to the campground only to be stopped a mile from Blue Oak with two gates one stating road closed the other stating Authorized personnel only. It was true about the narrow turn around, I could have managed my little micro trailer in the space between the two gates to turn around but anything bigger would of been seriously stuck. I was so disappointed. I brought my fishing pole and little inflatable kayak to do a little fishing. So, I returned to Blue Oak Campground.
