“A favorite park in the San Joaquin Valley. Hot Hot in the summer”

This remains one of our favorite campgrounds of all time. One of the many reasons is that there is only one way in and one way out. The road is rough from Chowchilla to the park. Keeps out the riff-Raff. A COE park that is on a lake used for irrigation so the lake in the summer and fall can be very low. We have stayed in all the sites we listed over the years we lived in CA. #9 was probably our favorite with a great view of the lake. It also is a prime Bass fishing lake. Additionally you will see Bald Eagles, Mountain Lion, Bobcat, Deer, Fox and Coyote. Rattle snakes are present (although in 6 years we saw only one) and Tarantulas also inhabit the area. They migrate in the fall. Ranger Keith used to let them crawl on his arm, and we finally did too!
Never used the restrooms, but when we did check them out they were always clean.

We stayed here since it was a little over an hour away from Yosemite National Park and we couldn’t get a spot inside the park.

The campground host was super nice and helpful. We reserved it online. The road in is long and very rough. We unhitched our tow vehicle at the dump station right before the entrance but should have done so before that.

We had power and water but no sewer. The sites aren’t very level but we made it work. Showers on site were clean. The lake is for boating and fishing.

The nearest store is 20 miles before the entrance so stock up before.
