One night stay on our trip around the Great Lakes. We showed up just before dark in the rain. Office was closed so we tried to pay online. Really clunky reservation system. One night stay on our trip around the Great Lakes. We showed up just before dark in the rain. Office was closed so we tried to pay online. Really clunky reservation system. Half of the Park was torn up due to a renovation. We stayed in the older section. Had it not been raining (and dark) we would have had a nice view of a bay in Lake Superior. Our TT is 24’. In the future I would stay at one of the many State Parks on the North Shore

Sign read “No Vacancy” but on the advice of welcome center we stopped in anyway. Several sites available. We had to make the reservation online since the system in office was down. Our full hookup site was good except for road noise. This campground offers many site on Lake Superior and is close to a beach and trails.

We've stayed here a couple times now. This past weekend was Heritage Days, the town's busiest event of the year, and the bathrooms were super clean the entire time, with very good showers. We've stayed here a couple times now. This past weekend was Heritage Days, the town's busiest event of the year, and the bathrooms were super clean the entire time, with very good showers.
The sites vary in length allowed. Our picnic table and firepit were behind the RV instead of alongside like you more commonly see. That means your vehicle isn't the privacy barrier like it is alongside, but it also means you have a view of the lake from our non-lakeside campsite.
We biked into town, easy, with one medium hill.
It can be a little confusing to find the office, but follow the road signs and you'll get there. (It's not the place that you can see from highway 61.)

Call the Friday before 4th of July weekend and got a spot. Extremely crowded. People were respectful of tight space. Great for one night. Wouldn't want to stay long term. We prefer less crowded.

We stayed here one week, the campground was full on the weekend. It has plenty of noise from the Highway. The lakefront sites have fantastic views. The City just upgraded the electric in the middle loop, and paved the loop. Tight spots, but worth it for the view. A nice walk to downtown.

We spent a week here in one of the worst sites in the park (29), and still enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. We spent a week here in one of the worst sites in the park (29), and still enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. This park appears to have been expanded over the years, and is now split into two distinct sections: the older camping area which is East of Park Road, and the newer annex area, West of Park Road/First Street. Both of our sites were in the older area in the largest 'loop'/area.
Site 29 abutted the playground, was not particularly level (but not unreasonable) and offered W/30/50A. The grass surrounding the narrow gravel pad was very wet upon arrival, and it took several days to dry to a level that we could walk on it without wet feet. This site did not provide great lake views except for night when many of the sites closer to the lake were empty.
Site 60 is a pull-through, W/30/50 although not the 'easiest' pull through (it's doable). Once you get into it, you will have a lake view over top of just a few sites, but the grade means you'll get one! We enjoyed this site very much, and were able to deploy our hammock between the two trees a few feet from our rig. Neighboring site 61 is VERY close to your hook-ups side, and is not a great site in general (very little space - and no view if a large rig is in site 60).
The sites in the 'annex' section (sites ending with a B behind the number) are standardized in length and space, have full-hook-ups, and provide a view out the front or back of your rig (many of the Class As here pulled in forward and ran hook-ups under the rig to enjoy the view!). The Annex/B section can handle the largest rigs - and larger rigs really might want to shoot for a site here. While there are some sites over in the West/older side of the park that could handle large rigs, it's dicey in terms of maneuverability when the campground is busy and ability to level.
Don't be tricked by the pseudo entrance on HWY 61 driving East! You'll want to enter either camping section from First Street/Park Road. If you're in a B (annex) site and are a big rig, I recommend heading straight there and walking over to check in (the roads in the older campground are a bit tight).
Sites 92-96 are very nice (and could handle large rigs) - plus have sewer! They get a bit more traffic noise, but the spacing on these sites is nice. 97-102 aren't bad, but you do need to look beyond sites 92-96 for a view.
The lake front sites in the main, older look (16-46) are crammed in, but you are right up against the lake.
I found the tent camping areas here a bit sad - not well placed for any sort of privacy or view.
Bathrooms depended on the loop. The bathrooms in the oldest/main area were old and often dirty, but the water pressure for the shower was great and the water was warm! The bathhouses over in the Annex and in the 67-91 loop were new.
Ticks were prevalent here - so make sure to tick check!
We enjoyed the Sonju Trail and walked to town several evenings for a beer at Castle Danger (~1.5mile) or Dairy Queen (~.5mile). There is a (very cold water) pebble beach across the street from the annex that (hearty) children were enjoying.
We had good Verizon data (LTE) and Starlink (at both of our sites - some might suffer from tree cover) here.
If you plan to stay more than a single night, or are stopping in during a summer weekend - I would highly recommend reservations. All sites were full every weekend.

We stayed here one night on our way to Grand Marais, and wish we would have stayed longer. Great site with a view of Burlington Bay/Lake Superior. Quite spacious. Walkable to the harbor and downtown.

I stayed 10/17-23/2021 - I have a smaller trailer and was staying in the off season so I was able to stay for $20. I'm not sure about the 1B through 34B campgrounds it looks like there is a different setup there. I saw some larger RVs on these sites.. Sites 1-15 are for smaller campers and tents. the rest could fit a larger RV but they very greatly. I started at #10 but moved to #15 so I was still protected by the trees but was right next to the shore.
The is a 2mi bike / walking path that goes from the campground along the lake by the lighthouse and to the railroad museum and Castle Danger Brewery. There was mountain biking at the Donald D Ferguson Demonstration Forrest to the north. For a longer bike Ride I went east along the coast to Gooseberry Park where the Gitchi Gami State Trail starts. It's hilly with some steep spots but beautiful through the trees and along the coast.
There is some road noise though the day, but at night the sound of the waves hitting the shore drowns it out.

We found a lot of trash around our site including in the fire pit even though there was a burn ban on in the state. Our site was not level at all but did our best. We did have Verizon service and satellite dish. There was a water leak at the water post out our door (which was for the site next to us) so we had a large muddy puddle. I didn't find the employees there to be friendly around the park as they worked. They started mowing, etc. real early in the a.m. This might be fine for some but I didn't enjoy it at all and won't be back.

Our site was small and neighbors close. For 2 nights with tax and everything it was $84 and we had one of the less expensive sites. However, the trails and area here were wonderful for us.
