We tried to camp here twice. Or rather in this area and the West Fork Carson River area next to it.
The first time was summer, a weekend, and it was bumper to bumper crowded with good folks have a good time with horse trailers and etc etc. We couldnt find any room and had to move on.
The second time we chose the West Fork Carson River section just prior to this one, because it had more room (shoulder season, mid week).
Note that contrary to the campendium pin drop, I prefer to enter this section a little earlier, at 38.693952,-119.931519 since there are some very nice spots in this section and then you can drive further south and get to the campendium pin drop on the same dirt road.
To the north is the West Fork Carson River area, also connected by a dirt road, but there is one big bump in the road that will give some vehicles a problem so it's better to use Blue Lakes Road to transit between the two.
Pros: Beautiful meadow
Cons: Can get VERY crowded and even when not crowded can feel like you are out in the open on display in some of the spots.
Nat n Danny would stay here again

“Beautiful Meadow Views, But Next To Busy Road”

About 5 min after entering the park you will see several pullouts with walk in sites that I never saw completely full up. Eventually you will come upon a meadow with some great views and 6-7 primitive campsites. The closest market/gas station is a 25 min drive and it’s an hours drive to the lake. It can get windy and the tree cover isn’t great for the majority of the sites, which are also along a busy road. Last four sites are also basic pullouts without much privacy. It is bear territory as well so keep a clean camp.
