We've stayed at this campground several times and have always found it to be very enjoyable. The campsites are spacious with large flat sand areas for tents and adequate parking for most camping trailers and rv's. The sites have a fire ring, a cooking grill and a metal stand for camp stoves as well as bear boxes. The camp host last year was very nice and attended to the needs of all. The restrooms are clean and as odor free as a vault toilet can be.
Near by is the Carson river with a beautiful meadow. There are lots of places nearby to visit and for hiking. The upper and lower Blue Lakes are near by along with Twin Lake. All are beautiful areas for hiking and canoeing or other water activities.
We were told by another camper that they stock the Carson River where CA88 crosses, so the fishing further up stream may or may not be so good.
Markleeville is close by as is Grover Hot Springs state park, with a delightful day use hot spring fed pool with a modest entry fee. The park is easy to reach via CA88 from either side of Carson Pass.

“Smaller, quiet campground in a great location”

We only stayed here one night, but found it to be very centrally located for exploring the Carson Pass/Hope Valley area; it is also relatively close to South Lake Tahoe (roughly a 20 min drive).
The campground is small (I believe there were only 22 sites), with nicely paved parking pads which were quite long, so they could accommodate slightly longer trailers. Our 16' travel trailer and our pickup fit the parking pad with room to spare. Each site had a newer picnic table, bear storage locker, and campfire pit. The campground host was very friendly.
The only real drawback we noticed were there were quite a few mosquitoes, due to some standing water near the south east end of the campground. This could just be from snow melt, so maybe it wouldn't be an issue later in the season.
The campground is located directly across from the West Fork of the Carson River; apparently there is pretty good fishing in this river if that's something you're interested in. The scenery in this little valley was STUNNING; would definitely recommend this campground to anyone looking for a quieter, smaller place to stay.
