I drove to this location from Highway 395 and found nothing special about it. While it appears it would work for late-night boondocking in a pinch, there is no cell service (Tmobile or Verizon) at this location and no redeeming qualities to speak of. Additionally, looking at Gaia GPS it appears this area may be in Owens Peak Wilderness. In my experience, wilderness areas are off-limits to all motorized vehicles. However, this spot is so close to the road, you might be okay on this point.

I ended up leaving this location and driving back down the hill toward Highway 395. On the way down, (at GPS coordinates 35.846086, -117.924633), I found another area that seems more promising. Looking at Gaia GPS it appears to be BLM (Ridgecrest Field Office) and there are signs indicating limited use for 4x4 and OHV. Found a spot for 1 night and will be leaving in the morning. Your mileage may vary.
