“Lonesome spot :)”

Reviewed Oct 13, 2018

Overall Rating

Much nicer than the actual campground nearby.
We didn’t go all the way to the GPS coordinates but decided the spot by the cinder cone would do us just fine.
This is a stop for us in between Sequoia and Death Valley.

“Remote & Secluded + Wildflowers”

Reviewed Apr 24, 2018

Overall Rating

The wildflowers were in bloom while we were here. Temps were just starting to get a little too hot during the day, but evenings were perfect. I was a little worried when we initially drove down the dirt road that it was too sandy, but we were fine. The dry lake bed itself is hard packed, even so, I'm glad we have 4WD. I would avoid ... more

“Nice N Quiet”

Reviewed Apr 04, 2018

Overall Rating

Access road was a bit rough but doable in all rigs. Lake bed of course is level that's always a plus. Lightly used, quite a few stopping just for one night. Wildflowers, now 04.04.18 are starting to bloom. Will keep this place in mind for the next time traveling by. Great Verizon cell service too, 5 bars with booster but probably not n... more

Choose the dry lake bed, go left at fork. Huge area of spaces. 45 ft fifth wheel no problem in or out. Gravel base and decent road into BLM area.

Easy access off 395. Interesting geological area. Open areas for big RVs. Can’t beat the price.

“Better and cheaper alternative to the 'proper' campground!”

Reviewed May 19, 2017

Overall Rating

For our 30ft 5th wheel we much preferred this FREE BLM area 1-2mls away from the $6 'proper' campground – (when driving in, turn LEFT at the T-junction, not right for the Falls/Campsite, then bear right where the main track heads left for a lava minerals works) - a big wide open flat-dry-mud-bed area, plenty of room and we were the onl... more

“An undervalued gem!”

Reviewed Jan 12, 2017

Overall Rating

This was a really interesting location to stay in, and we greatly enjoyed our visit. The landscape is quite interesting, as the sands are red and black, and the shrubs are bright yellow. Altogether, it's very pretty. About a mile from the free BLM lands is Fossil Falls itself, which is the canyon/volcanic rocks created by prehistoric v... more

“Amazing Desert Views and Interesting Rock Formations”

Reviewed Nov 02, 2016

Overall Rating

We stayed here 3 nights in late October. The weather was sunny and in the 70s during the day and just under 50 at night. It got a bit windy one day, but not to the point we were worried about seeking shelter (we parked in the middle of the lake bed). There is a lot of space here and we had no problem finding a place well away from a... more

“Beautiful, quiet and lots of space”

Reviewed Mar 23, 2016

Overall Rating

There are several dry lake beds to choose from off of (easily accessible) SE100 and adjacent roads. We stayed on the biggest one with lots of room for everyone to roam around. During our stay I only saw two other campers in the distance. No rangers came by. We literally had the entire lake bed to ourselves. It can get quite windy... more
