Camping in Wyoming

Wyoming is famous for its beautiful, scenic areas, making it a prime destination for campers and adventurers.

National Parks in Wyoming

Perhaps the most popular destination is Yellowstone National Park, which has many campgrounds, including Grant Village Campground, Canyon Campground Yellowstone, and Bridge Bay Campground.

Another popular option is Grand Teton National Park, where you can stay at Gros Ventre Campground, Jenny Lake Campground, or Signal Mountain Campground, known for its views of Jackson Lake and Mount Moran.

Wyoming State Parks

Wyoming State Parks also have recreation options like fishing, geocaching, biking, and hiking. Some state parks have river access for fishing, areas for archery, and designated areas for hunting.

Be sure to bring your camera to take advantage of scenic overlooks and wildlife viewing. You can pitch a tent at a developed tent site (with amenities) or park your RV at an RV site with hookups for the night.

Anglers might like to try Sinks Canyon State Park in west-central Wyoming as it is known for its large rainbow trout. Just be aware that all campsites there are primitive, with only a firepit and picnic table.

Buffalo Bill State Park is a favorite for many because of its varied recreation options, including boating, fishing, geocaching, hunting, a designated area for off-road vehicles, playgrounds, and volleyball courts.

There is an overnight charge fee by vehicle (in addition to any camping fees) at most state parks.

Wyoming RV Parks

Privately run RV Parks are another option for your Wyoming vacation. The cost may be higher than a state park, but many RV Parks include amenities like cable, wi-fi, and swimming pools. Experienced boondockers often build in a couple of days at an RV Park to "regroup" after enjoying a few days of dispersed camping.

Free Camping in Wyoming

There are over two-hundred places to camp for free in Wyoming. All four national forests within Wyoming allow for free dispersed camping, also known as boondocking. Dispersed camping must be done away from developed campgrounds and away from water sources. To protect and share the land, please observe stay limits.

You can enjoy (almost free) backcountry camping in Yellowstone National Park by securing a permit for only $3 a person. You can also camp for free in Wyoming's National Forests.

Dry camping may be allowed in some parking lots but is always subject to manager approval.

Wyoming National Forests

Bridger-Teton National Forest: At over 3.4 million acres of public land, it's hard to imagine a scenario where you wouldn't find a campsite.

Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest: This forest is known for several breathtaking routes to explore by car. These scenic byways include Logan Canyon, Nebo Loop, Big Cottonwood Canyon, and Mirror Lake.

Caribou-Targhee National Forest: Bordering both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, this National Forest is a great basecamp for exploring both national parks.

"Nice campground for RVs 30' and under"

While most sites are far from level, it is relatively roomy and open campground. Lots of wildlife Do not believe that there is any data signal, we have Verizon and it was only voice and a drive to Fishing Bridge Village (next to tower) yields barely usable 4G (with booster). Check in is spotty, sometimes very good, but the most recent visit,...

"Quite Spot In Town"

active staractive staractive staractive starinactive star
Small, quite RV park with good grassy areas between sites. We were camping early in the season and water, restrooms and laundry were closed. I found a spigot on the back wall where I could fill up fresh tanks, so basic camp spot was full service. Registration was self service & $30. Only 2 RVs camping this night. Quite spot several blocks...

"Secret Dump Station?!?"

active staractive staractive starinactive starinactive star
This is a transient stop for many RVers, meaning you drive all day, pull up to a place that has full hook up’s and is safe, get up early and keep going. For this you pay $40+ and we’ve come to accept that. However, keeping the dump site a secret is a deal breaker. Had an employee not come in early, we’d still be looking. For those of you who...

"Nice Little City Park, Trains did Not Blow Whistle But They Were A Bit Noisy"

Very close to tracks, no water this time of year. We were the only ones there , so we were able to use 2 spaces with our 40 ft. TT spaces are small

"Very Average"

active staractive starinactive starinactive starinactive star
It’s an overpriced gravel parking lot next to the highway and some oil tanks. Fine for an overnight but nothing spectacular about it. Very dusty. Sites were level and lots of pull thru sites. We didn’t see any real difference between the cheaper sites vs more premium sites.
