White Rock Campground

There is nothing special about the Whiterock campground. In exploring the area, I drove less than half a mile past the main campground down the gravel road.
To the left is a dirt gravel road that has free (donation) campsites that I thought were nicer than the spots at Whiterock.
Road has a couple ruts right off the start...easy to negotiate. Road goes quite a ways back...spots to camp all along the way. VERY QUIET and beautiful surroundings.

Camped night of Sunday, 11/13/16, arriving late afternoon. Beautiful surroundings, but the campground is small, and I was told it had been full that weekend.

There was a camp host, who came by while setting up. Paying was by depositing money (or check) in the envelope. While there were no marked hiking trails off the campground, you could walk down the road or down Peña Blanca Creek wash, which was dry. It's a pretty spot, but there's a bit of traffic going back & forth down the road by the Border Patrol, even through the night.

Sites had picnic table (some under awnings) & a fire ring; some were walk-in tent camping. The vault toilet wasn't bad & they cleaned it on Monday. There is no water, bring your own. Also no cell service; didn't get bars until closer to Nogales.

Peña Blanca Lake is down the road, with a large boat launch. A trail starts to the left of the boat launch that leads around the lake. Another trail is above and to the right of the boat launch area, so perhaps it goes all the way around the lake (not sure).
